I wonder if the special 200 baht fee for a fast track visa (in addition to the 1000 baht visa fee) is official. We get a receipt for the 1000 baht but not for the 200 baht fast track component.

I have heard of this fast track visa. Where can you get it? Usually I land very early in the morning and then it is not normally a big issue. I always fly business and sometimes they pass out a fast track ticket, sometimes not. When I asked about it - of course they could not reply. On my last journey GF and I landed in the mid day and when I saw the humongous lines in front of the passport desks I almost gave up! Just horrible. GF smiled in triumph as she could easily slip through via the thai line. But then it happened which surprised me! One of the thai uniforms pointed at me and asked her if I was her companion. She said yes - and they let me go through with her! Gosh! A friendly helpful gesture in Thailand! I was very happy though because those farang ques must have been at least a 2 hour ordeal! So if there is a fast track to purchase - would be very happy to hear where to get it!

Fast Track passes are always handed out in Cathy Pacific business class. But last time I arrived in economy I just went to the Fast Track counter and the chap didn't demand a pass...perhaps because I'm so ancient.

Jojje, I am surprised you missed the fast track row. This is just parallel to the regular visa queue, separated by just a ribbon. When you enter the visa-on-arrival hall you just take the extreme left row which has a "Fast Track" board pointing the way (where the instant photo cabin is located). In fact when you stand in the regular queue you will see a counter to your upper left where there are very few or no tourists ; that's the one. The fast track clearance is super fast even on the rare occasion when there are several people there. As for being "preferentially" pulled out of the regular queue by the immigration officer, congratulations. I have seen this happening and it is often a good gesture by an observant officer in appreciation of the man's decency in standing in queue even when his companion sailed through

Report from AFP dated 3 January 2014 :- Thai protesters say no plan to shut airports BANGKOK (AFP) - Thailand's anti-government protest movement reassured tourists Friday that it would not target the kingdom's airports or public transportation during a planned "shutdown" of Bangkok later this month. The demonstrators, who are seeking to oust Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and curb her billionaire family's political dominance, say they will occupy Bangkok from January 13. "Operation Occupy Bangkok does not involve airport closures or the disruption of any mass transport services. Public buses, trains, BTS sky-trains, MRT underground trains, and public boats will operate normally," the protest movement said on its English-language Facebook page. The demonstrators have vowed to set up protest stages around the capital, prevent government officials from going to work and to cut off power and water to government offices as well as to the residences of the prime minister and her cabinet.

Thanks Kaymanx! I sure know where the fast lane IS, but without a special card that doesnt help a lot. When I have received one from the Thai airways crew, sure I have used it. Or if the lines have been moderate - saved it for a later use! But now I read that you can buy such a card? Do you know where? Anyone? Because I would sure like to have one if again it would look like last time and perhaps they are not so helpful on next arrival!

Airport mulls plans to cope with protest as flights cut BangkokPost: 6 Jan 2014 Suvarnabhumi airport officials will decide today on a plan to mitigate disruption caused by the People's Democratic Reform Committee's (PDRC) intended shutdown of Bangkok next week. The move follows reports that at least three airlines have decided to reduce flights to Bangkok from the middle of this month to avoid the political conflict. They are Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Hong Kong Airlines. Airport director Rawewan Netrakavesna said yesterday Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific planned to cut the number of flights to Bangkok by merging certain flights with others due to fewer passenger numbers. But none of these airlines has confirmed plans to reduce flights so far, she said. ... http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/politics/388035/airport-mulls-plans-to-cope-with-protest-as-flights-cut

Bangkok Shutdown: Air control body says can ensure no disruption by protesters ================================================ BANGKOK (REUTERS) - Thailand's air traffic communications body said on Wednesday that it had back-up operations to ensure no disruption to air travel if hard-line anti-government protesters attempt to shut down its main control centre. Protesters trying to topple the government are camped in central Bangkok and one faction has threatened to besiege the stock exchange and offices of the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd (AeroThai), part of the Ministry of Transport, which handles air traffic control communications. AeroThai's offices in central Bangkok threatened by the protesters looks after planes in air space beyond 80km from Thai airports. "AeroThai has prepared contingency plans to handle any situation that may affect our service...For en-route services, AeroThai has set up a back-up centre working parallel to our primary system," company president Prajak Sajjasophon told Reuters.

Report from The Nation dated 10 February 2014 :- Suvarnabhumi phase 2 project to go to tender in April, 2014 ======================================= Airports of Thailand plans to bid out the Bt62-billion project to build the second phase of Suvarnabhumi Airport in April and disclose the winner in August. Construction is expected to be completed in 2016, when Suvarnabhumi's capacity will be boosted to 60 million passengers per year from the present 45 million a year, president Makin Petplai said Monday. The political demonstrations have caused passenger throughput at airports under AOT management to expand by only 7.35 per cent in March, falling short of the 10-per cent target.
