They imply that in order to get the lowest fare one must book early. I found out to the contrary. Booked myself on the BKK-KL-BKK sector on 5 May with travel date a month away from 9-13. T and L fare was quoted. Believe L stands for low. Total damage incl all taxes B5,322. Today, the same dates entered on their web site - sure increase price on the BKK-KL sector but the return sector price was reduced. Total now B4,049. So maybe the motto doesnt work. Its more of trying to fill up seats.

I have heard nothing but good things about Air Asia. Seems if you are prepared to book a couple of days in advance you can get airfares for roughly half that of Thai. Havent tried them but have a feeling they may well shake up the whole domestic air travel scene.

They appeared quite disorganized at Phuket Airport, and you had to bus to and from the plane. With unassigned seats, it was quite hectic. Can't beat the price, though.

I had a look a couple of weeks back and they quoted 650Bt for one way to Udon Thani. Went back seven days later and the price was 950Bt. Unfortunately, they only accept payment by credit card in Thailand & only Mastercard (maybe Visa also) which I don't have at this moment. It was not clear whether you could book on a friend's card. I know this is not a problem for 99% of people who use this forum but I would have thought it may stop the TG's from using this service. Not many BG's I know have a credit card and know their way around a computer well enough to book online. I ended up paying a small fortune (relatively) & booking on Thai at double the cost. If my Mastercard arrives in time then may be I can book the return. It would be helpful if they had an office where you could pay cash but I suppose this would be an additional unwarranted overhead.

DSBones & forum friends, You can call Air Asia at 025-159-999 and book via the call centre, then pay for the ticket at any Bangkok Bank branch. They don't do it often at Bangkok Bank but you can do it in the "Bill Payments" department. They will instruct you over the phone in what to do. In my case, I just called the # and had my bank representative speak directly with Air Asia and they worked it all out for me!

Why so complicated? I mean having the banker talk to them on the phone to effect a payment. Couldn't they simply give you their account number, you make the deposit and fax them the copy? Then they activate the ticket you reserved by phone. It should work.

Air Asia starts flying BKK-Penang daily from 16 June. Fares from Baht 500 each way initially. This will increase. But you can get that fare on most Penang flights at the moment. Beware of the extras. Penang airport tax of Baht900 will be added to the ticket (and it is a very average airport!). Last time I went to Penang was on the daily Thai/MH code share and the lowest fare was Baht7,500 plus taxes.....expect this fare to come down in response to AA. Macau flights start on July 5th (I think). Booking from June9. Flights from Baht 999 each way. The new Sands Casino and hotel is now open in Macau. More Vegas than the old Lisboa !! Still no sign of a schedule, fares or even an airplane for Nok Air. One-Two-Go is looking at regional low cost routes from BKK to HKG, SIN and KUL. They are also in the market for second hand 737s..... L 1011

What are the options (apart from the website and hotline) to buy Air Asia tickets in Bangkok? I ask because I am not comfortable putting credit card nos. out on the net, especially from an internet cafe or a hotel network in Thailand or anywhere overseas. In Singapore you can buy tickets from selected post offices.
