Quote: from BKK Banger on 11:13 am on July 21, 2004 I know a number of US citizens who have promptly had their passport stamped REVOKED for default on child support etc. and been offerred a one way trip back to the States.
Why would anyone consider a government taking all steps possible to make sure its citizens own up to their responsibilities to be a bad thing? If a country will let a guy off the hook for child support simply by leaving the country then that country has some serious issues. I make child support payments every month and they make up a huge portion of my income. It doesn't bother me at all if I have to go without a few things if it insures my son is well provided for.

Sorry Mr. A I did not wish to infer all US citizens are defaulters and/or criminals. Some of them are but the majority are reasonable people. I do however know some "deadbeats" who earn less than the child support the court has set. A "deadbeat" teacher of English on 25,000 Baht/mth will probably default in the end. What I am getting at is that some of these poor devils have wives and children here. The family is ripped asunder by the US government by this law (the Bradley Amendment I believe). If like myself you are crap at keeping in touch you may find suddenly one day that you have a child, a court order and a revoked passport or beenindicted on suspicion of a crime. Hence my tip never to allow your passport to be "checked".

Back on topic...... Today I received conformation that the National Visa center has received and approved I-129F Petition filed on behalf of my fiance'. Within one week the petition will be forwarded to the emabassy in Bangkok where the interview will take place. The next set of paper work should be mailed to my fiance soon. When I get to Bangkok in August I will set up the interview for December and after that.....We should be good to go!!! So far things are going well and fairly quickly. The Embassy in Bangkok is setting interviews about 10-12 weeks out. I will schedule the Inteview for December when I will be back in BKK. The Visa is issued after the interview on the same day. Keep your fingers crossed..... Teach

Here's a serious inquiry, though it has to be added that I'm not seriously considering this. I just like to explore loopholes... I'm an Austrian citizen - as such, getting a visa for a girl to visit Austria is blindingly easy, it appears. Just some paperwork, proof of air tickets both ways, proof of medical insurance. Done. I assume a fiancé or marriage visa would be equally simple (though haven't inquired yet). Now, if someone of my status were to marry a TG, apply for marriage visa for Austria. In Austria, perform change of status to get her Austrian residence and passport - shouldn't it then be possible, and easier to just apply for a visa for her as an Austrian resident (i.e. she can just fly to the US, and get the default tourist.) Sure, you need to be in special circumstances for this to wokr, but it appears it might be a nice shortcut versus the 6-7 months for wife visa, and 14-16 months for fiancé visa they currently quote. Not too bad... Teach

Yes Harry sounds like a winner. Teacher, Congardulations, this is the fast part. Now let me let the air out of your tires. Now after you get her fiancee VISA and bring her to the USA you have 90 days to get married and file the adjustment of status. MAKE SURE YOU PAY THE APPLICATION FEE BY PERSONNAL CHECK. Technically your wife should get a temporaily resident status, but that will never happen and you will be in the que for a Permenant Resident Status (aka Green Card) this que is about 4 years long. Yes I said years, not months Now if your wife wants to go back to Thailand during that period you have to file an Advance Parole document and of course pay more money, but the kicker is that the INS has no record of when you filed your application form as they do not track this in their computers until close to 90 days when your que is becoming close. Hence, you must use your cancelled personnal check as proof of filing. I used a Certified Check and has to go to the issuing bank to get a micofilm copy. That was a hassle. Now if your wife gets ansey to see the sick buffalo and leaves without the Advance Parole document in hand (This takes 6-8 weeks to process) You are screw and have to bascially start all over again and file under the renufication of spouse's act which is bascially all the same paperwork you did on the I-129F

I see Fischer, the US chess grand master is being held in Japan for attempting to travel with a REVOKED US passport. Seems that he played chess with a Yugoslavian in 1992 and this was sufficient for the US to revoke his passport whilst he was out of the country. Political crime?

Yugoslavia was under international sanctions at the time because of ethnic cleansing (as mandated by International Law and which many frequently accuse the US of ignoring). Fischer seems to have a lot of mental problems (other than his ability to play chess) as this BBC article describes: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3900793.stm
