Have gone through the airport already 4 times. One each for domestic departure and arrival, and international departure and arrival.

On both arrivals had checked luggage. They came through conveyor belt after no more than 10 minutes of waiting.

I was very impressed with not having to wait at all at inmigration. There were more booths with officers than passengers in queue.

Distances to walk can be long.

Of all 4 experiences I disliked the one I should have liked more: international departures. It doesnt looks like an airport with shops; it is a shopping mall that passengers use on their way to the planes. The lines to go through security check were absurdly long. There were about 50 people long. The area close to the gates (after security) are way too far from the area with the shops and restaurants are -once you go though the long security line, you feel so far away that you do not want to go back all that distance (should the flight be delayed at the last minute). Besides you would have to go again through the long security lines. I cannot believe the lines will be that long -must have been a freak ocurrence that day.

Taxi lines a bit disorganized, but not that bad (not worse than at old airport). And yes, one has to look for the way to get to where one is supposed to go pick them. A total newbie coming for the first time, may end up tempted to take one of the limo services if he cannot figure his way around.

Of 4 taxis, taken to/from, I did not like going trhough the Bangna highway -if origin/destination is mid-Sukhumvit. It took me about 20 minutes longer than taking the highway by Sukhumvit soi 1 -and about 100 baht more (and without traffic in all 4 instances).

The airport does look beautiful from the outside and from afar. What I liked best besides the visuals, is the air condition delivery system.

Summary, much better than predicted by all those who kept anticipating disaster -actually besides the long lines at security no issue. But at the end, just another airport -modern, big and with many shops. I think I still ike Changi best.

I was scanning the thread for info on the new Airport - dowtown buses but didn't spot anything. Sorry if its there and missed it.

Anyway, has anybody taken the A3 bus from the new airport to Sukhumvit yet ? If so, which way does it run - ie. does it enter in at Nana as the old A3 bus did or does it run in from the other end of Sukhumvit ?

I need to know to give a mate directions to my place next week. He's too tight to take a taxi and I'm too mean to go to the airport and meet him.

As Promised.

I arrived this morning so here is the timetable from touchdown to arrival at the hotel.

Wheels down 0926
Arrive at the gate 0932
Immigration 0942 quite a good walk for someone not quite as fit.
many lines open but only few arrivals
Arrive baggage claim 0944 (GF150 = 19) As you come out of immigration there is a flashing display giving all claim for the day but you will have to look carefully for your area.as they also display all code share flight numbers as well but at least the list is in due arrival time.
Baggage starts up 0952
First bags off 0955
My bag 0957
out through the fairly well signposted route to the outside.
YOU NEED TO GO DOWN ONE LEVEL TO GET THE TAXI METER.
Many touts at 800 Baht to Sukhumvit

Got to the taxi at 1008 after a slight detour outside then back in.

BECAREFUL OF THE TRAVELATOR IT IS STEEP WITHOUT HELP TO HOLD BACK YOUR CASE MAYBE A CASE OF USING TROLLYS AS THEY APPARENTLY STICK IN THE TRACK.
The old airport idea of tickets is in place for the taxi but a bit hit and miss. Plenty of taxi available about 40 +
Onto the HIGHWAY 45 and 20 Baht tolls
Taxi meter to Sukhumvit 171 Baht and to bottom of Soi 4 189

Arrive Hotel 1050 because taxi came off suk north not south
Taxi total 189 + 50 + 65

Overall nice clean open airport but still plenty of work and areas taped off cables being pulled.

Traffis not to heavey at that time later unknown but in places the road is 7 lanes wide so should not be too much of a problem

IMHO It was NOT ready to open

You have to look for the signs but they are there.

There are money changers after you come out of customs but they are behind you so you have to turn round to the right (for the ones I saw)

Now back in the Hotel just in time it is chucking it down.
Trip to hairdressers and Soi 7/1 good quick report in the correct thread.

And so to bed

See those here tomorrow night weather permitting at Toxic

I have been asked if my arrival report can be replicated on an other board.

I have no problem with that as long as breconion and Bangkok tonight is/are credited.

What say you?

breconion,

Surprised you thought the airport was clean - from my five visits it is really dirty. Windows, floors, already look like they have been neglected. Little thai lady with straw broom doing hte cleaning - not surprising.

So far so good though (above excepted). the airport works fine, although I have had problems getting taxis, and I do hope they get it a bit more organised as last time I came through it was everyman for themselves.

Business class lounge situation is not good either. Many lounges not yet open, those that are can be crowded at busy times. cathay lounge is difficult to find, but nice. Thai lounge huge but way too crowded.

Distances to walk very large - they need a train system like HK.

Immigration - so far so good - never had more than one or two people in front of me at the Q.

Signage for taxi area is shocking - but I guess it was all done last minute. Need to go downstairs on moving walkway thing.

Limo at 800 baht to the centre of town if you can't get a taxi...

Clear was as in the design not the trash found everywhere but then I was early in the day so they had all night to tidy up.

It does look as though it will be a problem to keep clean

Breconion thanks for your permission for sure I have done like you adviseed me. As long as it isnt clear how to save money for a taxi fare maybe this link for the bus lines will be an option.

Sorry but for me it seems that the taxi fares are rised up. To Sukhumvit 600 Baht to Pttaya 1100 not included tollway. Not really a fair deal for thailand. But who care.

Holy shit, the airport just opened on September 28th and you've gone 5 times? Do you live in LOS or something?

He's a "Janitor", cleans the airport,, no wonder it's dirty
So we should ask, why has he only worked 5 shifts since opening?

Please excuse my twisted sense of humour.

Mel
