JHJr,

You can get booked on any AirAsia flight by paying cash for your seat at the AIS phone shop at Siam Square Soi 5.

Pretty easy and also very convenient.

Cheers!

I saw this discussion at the Thai parliament, where some other airlines made a complaint about the cheap prices of Air Asia. Are there any consequences by now?

Thanks to CalEden for initiating this thread. I'm traveling to Thailand again in September and I was riding the fence about going to Phuket because of airfare. So, I booked a flight on Air Asia for 500 baht each way. It seems that you can't decline the insurance and of course you must pays taxes, but the total was still just 1,391 baht = $35 US!

Things I noticed though: luggage is retricted to 15 kg checked and 7 kg carry-on, so anyone traveling with AA must go light. Also, the prices on flights go up as seats start getting bought up, so book online early.

I haven't flown with them yet, but I'm looking forward to it. My advice: If there's some place in SE Asia you've passed up on going to becuase of travel costs, you just lost your excuse. A trip at lots of places is now available for cheap if you plan ahead, so just go.

I just booked a flight from BKK to Udon Thani in September for Bt963 total roundtrip. Booked through their website from the USA no problems. e-tickets are so nice. There's a weight restriction on baggage, But I don't need much for 3 days. Change of socks, toothbrush, and a box of rubbers.....oh, and my camera. What else is there....hehe

Air Asia is an Malayasian Air lines company or may be, associated with MA. Does anyone know,if they fly to BKK and manila both ways? And if so, what is the fare. I could not find it in their web site.

NM, don't be so hard with AA....ok they almost screwd the first flight but then things got better and better...I used'em during my last trip to Malaysia and all was fine..good planes, decent flight.
Ah, different from their policy, they did actually refund me for a wrong purchase....it took almost 45 days but at the end they gladly refunded my credit card.

Good news from NM; one less pax fighting to get great prices on decent, reliable airplanes! We all make our choices - if you want to fly at Thai Air prices you are welcome to do so ! And the inaugural flight did not make an emergency landing - just a precaution due to a warning light. Hardly life endangering. It happens all the time even to the big guys !

Bimlee, AA has no connection with MA. They do not yet fly to Manila. The Thai subsidiary, Thai Air Asia, has international routes ex BKK to Macau, Singapore, Penang, KL, Johor Bahru, Kota Kintabalu (one stop).

The website and e-ticketing work well. And the airline has first mover advantage among the LCCs starting up in SE Asia.

In Thailand Orient Thai flies one price domestic flights - turn up, buy a ticket and fly (sometimes on old classic 747s !!). Nok Air (Thai Air rebranded domestic) is still to launch.

From Singapore Valuair flies up to BKK twice a day. Simple fares and online booking. Does provide decent leg room and light meals.

Tiger Air and Jetstar Asia are still WIP.

Its all good news for the consumer - from BKK I have just booked tickets on AA for 500 baht each way to Penang and for Baht 689 each way to Macau. Cant beat those fares ! The taxes are more than the flights !

Anybody not flying with Air Asia because of the interest from a certain business group/tycoon? Personally, for me it might be a reason to fly another airline. just the little I can do to avoid this tycoon to increase his wealth due to policy corruption. For what it is worth.....
