Who said that the penalty would be imprisonment? I doubt that seriously. The only thing that has happened to him so far is that his passport has been revoked. He would probably have gotten off with a fine. If there was any prison sentence, it would likely be suspended for a first time offense. Fischer earned $3 million at the chess tournament in Yugoslavia so he could afford to pay the fine. I am sure that he would eventually get his passport back.

Fischer is wanted by US government. He will be extadited and he will likely go to jail. Forget about suspended sentence, that will not apply here. A felony warrant controls. As a US attorney, I know that the US is doing strange things these days and if they want you they will get you. Fischer will do time.

Upon further review, you may be correct. There are some indications that Fischer may have contributed money and support to terrorist groups, which may be the real reason his passport was revoked. So far (as I understand it) the only thing that has happened is his US passport is revoked. But if he comes back to the US, some think he may be indicted for supporting terrorists. He can go to another country if he finds one that will accept him, and his lawyers are looking into that right now.
Fischer seems to have some mental problems, as described in the BBC article.

Careful, let me tell you a story I just heard.
I sometime visit an East Coast AMP and my fav girl there is a 37 year old Thai 9. I have taken her to dinner a few time and spent a weekend with her, she told me about her son and ex-husband in Thailand. But what she never told me about was that she had an american husband, that didn't know she work at the AMP. He found out about her side biz and now wants a divorce. Just shows you that even if you take the BG out of Thailand, but she still has BG habits. Now she will lose her visa and have to return to BKK...
