Does anoyone know how accurate this is? I have hear Nov this year, next year. I even asked around on some sites specifically about the BTS and one said 10 years but getting a simple answer for a question like this I have found to be difficult in the past when asking someone in LOS. BTW I am asking about the link between Suvarnabhumi and Sukhumvit Bangkok.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Wednesday 26 September 2007 :- Skytrain halts in security scare ======================= Hundreds of commuters were left in a state of panic at the height of rush hour on Wednesday morning when a BTS skytrain halted abruptly while in motion and came to a standstill between Ploenchit and Nana stations due to a technical failure. The train was packed with commuters when the incident occurred at 8am. The train conductor made the decision not to continue operating the train for security reasons. This resulted in the suspension of all train services operating from Onnuj to Mor Chit stations. An official from the Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Co., Ltd. (BMCL) later revealed that the train had abruptly come to a halt after its security system detected a fault. He said authorities are still in the process of locating the fault. The skytrain resumed operation at 8.45am, after its system was fixed.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Wednesday 3 October 2007 :- Cabinet endorses Purple Line ====================== The cabinet yesterday approved construction of the 41.7-billion-baht Bang Yai-Bang Sue electric railway, with an international call for tenders expected in December 2007. The cabinet endorsed the 23km Purple Line project, forecast to cost 31.2 billion baht for construction, 1.2 billion baht for consultancy and 9.3 billion baht for land expropriation. The project will be a public-private partnership in which the state pays for the construction of rail line and the private contractor runs the rail service, investing in trains and operational systems, said Transport Minister Theera Haocharoen. Construction will take three years. The Purple Line will fall under the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) and will link with the agency's existing underground line. The ministry will hold planning meeting with officials from the MRTA, the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning, and the National Economic and Social Development Board. Deputy Transport Minister Sansern Wongcha-um said a key issue in the talks would be the need to keep fares low. A government subsidy could be an option, he added. But MRTA governor Prapat Chongsanguan cautioned that offering low fares might not be easy because the private contractor will also be adding operating costs to the price of tickets. The government of Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont has also endorsed the 15km Red Line from Bang Sue to Taling Chan, expected to cost around 13 billion baht.

So are they still looking for the fault or have they fixed the system that day at 8.45am? Contradictions. Cheers! Ap.-

Report from Bangkok Post dated Monday 8 October 2007 :- Subway plans for retail outlets in car parks ================================ The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) plans to develop commercial areas around parking lots at subway stations to boost revenue. MRTA board member Jadul Apichatabutra, who is also deputy permanent secretary of the PM's Office, said the vacant space would be rented out for use by shops or advertising boards. As well as boosting income the development would mean better lighting around the parking areas, making them safer, he said. The MRTA will also make a study of expropriated land along the subway lines to see how it can be commercially developed. It is government policy the land must be used for MRTA-related activities. The subway agency has already leased out space at its parking area near Lat Phrao intersection to Thai Airways International, which will open a ticket booth and an outlet for its bakery chain Puff & Pie. The airline plans more sales offices and food outlets at other subway stations, Mr Jadul said.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Friday 18 October 2007 :- B20bn Bang Sue transport hub scheduled for 2012 opening ============================================= The new Bang Sue terminal is expected to open in 2012, according to the government. The 20-billion-baht terminal will serve as Bangkok's main transport hub linking provincial buses, rail links and the city's subway. Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont directed cabinet ministers on Tuesday to accelerate work on the Bang Sue terminal to facilitate transport links within the capital. The new terminal is expected to help alleviate traffic congestion in the inner city by taking up the passenger load now carried by the Hua Lamphong rail station. Kosit Panpiemras, a deputy prime minister, met yesterday with officials of the Transport Ministry, the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Mass Transit Rapid Authority and the Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning Office to discuss progress in building the new terminal. The Bang Sue terminal will be a station for the new 26-kilometre, 52.2-billion-baht Red Line running to Rangsit. Another 3.8 billion baht will be allocated for a spur line running from Rangsit to Thammasat University. The project will be financed by revenue from the state Oil Fund, central budget and loans from the Japan Bank for International Co-operation. Transport Minister Theera Haocharoen said the ministry and the State Railway of Thailand would study ways to integrate transport lines under a common ticketing system for the convenience of commuters. Adm Theera said officials discussed ways to link the Bang Sue station with the new Makkasan station for the Airport Rail Link system running from the inner city to Suvarnabhumi Airport, and had agreed that such a line should be left to the next government. For the Bang Sue terminal, the preliminary design has already been completed. Maitree Srinarawat, director-general for the Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning Office, said bids would be tendered starting this month, with construction expected to start by the end of the year. He also said the bidding for contracts to build the 15-kilometre Bang Sue-Taling Chan segment of the Red Line should open in January.
