The fare from the new airport for me to Soi 4 was less 200 ++ in a Taxi meter on the meter
The limo unoffical taxi are 600 ++ up to I have heard quoted 1600 by a hotel pick up service to Bangkok.
Now I am not a cheap charlie but that is extream and not in my book.

Correct from the stand
Didn't go to Departures.
Many taxi meter available at 10 AM one floor BELOW arrivals
But many touts with the 800 option
No Q and seconds to get in and be on my way

We had the same experience as breconion. Came through International Arrivals B, passed all the touts pushing the taxis and went downstairs one level.
We were the 2nd in line for the taxis. Many taxis available (It looked like there were at least 3 different taxi pickup areas). We told the girl where we wanted to go (Suk Soi 15) and she wrote it on a piece of paper in Thai and passed it to another guy.
That guy waved us to a taxi, told the driver in Thai where we wanted to go, handed me the 50bt surcharge/taxi complaint form, and off we went.
Light traffic (Oct 15th about 11am) and we were at Soi 15 quickly. Just under 200bt for meter, 50bt airport surcharge, plus tolls (25bt and 40bt). Total 315bt + tip.

I'm arriving in BKK with 70 kgs of luggage, mainly equipment for my company's office in BKK. The company will pay for a "limo" (a Mercedes sedan), the ones that used to cost 700B at Don Muang (cost isn't a big factor, but arranging for hotel pickup is too big a hassle, never know if you're going to meet the driver or not).
At DM, there were several stands right outside the customs' area where you paid the fee for the "limo." Is it a similar arrangement for the "limos" at the new airport? I have too much luggage and the company is footing the bill anyway to bother with metered taxis. I don't want to deal with a tout, I need a legit receipt.

EP - I didn't notice any limo stands outside of International Arrivals B. They might have been there, but all I remember seeing is the purple Siam Commerical Bank sign - and lots of touts asking me if I wanted a taxi.
I should have been more observant. Maybe one of the other forum members noticed more.

I did notice the last time I passed thru the airport that the price was actually cheaper for an Isuzu MU7 than for a Benz type car. And I think the SUV would probably better meet your needs.
I could not find (did not look too hard) a contact number that might allow you to arrange for a pick-up in advance. I have a travel agent I use in BKK for almost all my flight arrangements in Asia. I think she can probably arrange for a driver to meet you at the airport if you do not want to mess around arranging something at the airport when you arrive. If you want PM me and I can send you her contact info.
Edit in: There is of course a basic contact number on the AOT website I gave a link to. You might have some luck with that.

Thanks for the help and the link. I read on another board that they have now set up a "taxi booth" inside the terminal, so it shouldn't be a big problem. I just hate to look like I don't know where to go, that's when the touts swarm you.

BigDUSA, They will probably follow the lead from Australia, I had the exquiste opportunity to vist a court-house several years ago ( witness guys),, in the Toilets HUGE signs NO SMOKING FINE $300,, just below sign was another sign saying "Please deposit syringes here"
WTF????
Can't wait to live in a not so "correct" ( matter of opinion) country.
