Was allowed to fly from BKK to Singapore with over weight suitecases. Nothing said at check in, so not aware of the weight problem. On return checkin in Singapore told my bagage is overweight and had to pay 2000 Baht. If I had been informed of the excess weight would had left one suite case in BKK. AirAsia was very inflexible desspite AirAsia's entrapment and flight was only quarter full. Suspect this is an AirAsia profit device. The forward section of the plane had trays turned down and passengers only allowed to sit in rear of plane. So much for open seating policy. I've been on flights where AirAsia saved seats for VIP's in the front. There is no que to enter the plane, It is a wild stampede such as the Calgary Rodeo! Like someone cried fire in a crowded theater. Forget the children, elderly, and crippled everyone for themselfves.

Flying AirAsia is FFP (Fly For Pay) !

Funny how you can call it entrapment. Clearly states on rule #4 on my eticket confermation the baggage weight restrictions, and the cost of overage. How many other passengers had to pay overweight charges? At bt2000 rt they don't make any money on the flight. It's there promo ending in Oct. Looks like it was a good deal even with the over baggage.

If commercial planes are registered in Thailand, they have to be flown by Thai pilots. So says the law.

But yes, Air Asia in Malaysia has hired foreign pilots. There is some debate about some of those pilots flying (or not) the Thai based planes.

I think it depends on the Airports policy rather than the Airlines policy, sort of what the norm is at that airport for security, boarding etc.. Happens a lot flying from Mainland China to Thailand or Hong Kong and returning. Flying out from China you could take a horse with you, but back in from HK, weight and also carry-on luggage size seems to be of major concern.

You are allowed 32 Kilos out of Canada and Hong Kong, they will let you get away with 35 most of the time but that is MAX.

I had to re-pack 8 BIG boxes on 2 occasions when I flew out of Hong Kong, I now bring a fish scale with me to weigh my stuff before going to the airport. It saves a lot of grief.

Just wanted to say that I flew Air Asia last March from Bangkok to Phuket for about $40 roundtrip. I booked the flight online and had no problems. Extremely cheap, very good service. I would definitely fly them again.

I had thought that perhaps I should be a bit cautious flying on such a cheap ticket. Would the airline be old and risky? Not at all.

They do have weight restrictions for your luggage, and I've forgotten exactly how much they allow. Also, be advised that seating is open, so check-in early to avoid being sandwiched in the middle seat.

Plane was totally full....seemed as though the plane was full of young Bangkokians going to the beach for the weekend. For that cheap, who wouldn't?

I travelled on Airasia inside Malaysia quite frequently. No hassle, good service, and nice planes. But they are using there planes Non-stop and that can be worrysome.

Anyway, booked myself again in October. This time on BKK-HKT flight.

Worth a try...damn cheap !!

Cheers !!
