Flown only United and China air--have always enjoyed the mostly pretty hostesses on CA. Did have one prob with the tradition of putting your seat up during the meal.
My seat would onty go up "1 mm" shy of complete upright--the hostess was persistent that the rude chinese behind me needed that 1mm to get a better chance of coughing on the back of my head. After telling me three times and attempts at getting that one mm--I did one of those exaggerated, sarcastic attempt to correct my seat--gave her a "know you happy."
She finally got the message. Otherwise good service--On deplaning I tend to wedge that little rude bastard trying to get one ahead of me and act like I am oblivious to what is happening.
I think I get worse service from the frumpy, menopausal United hostesses.
Flying China Air in three weeks--will note this poss trend.

Interesting Read. The difference between Taiwan airlines and Chinese mainland airlines is profound, and so is the travel experience you may or may not receive.
Generally speaking on a Chinese mainland airline you are undoubtedly going to suffer some degraded service along with some negative passengers.
Any other airline is a hit and miss situation which the above posts indicate. This means that one flight may be great, one flight may not.
Chinese flyers are not really rude, just ignorant of what the international standard is. They do not seem to bother each other..why? Because that is what they expect people to do. Their experience is limited so their actions may appear uncouth or so it seems.
The problem lies with the airlines not being prepared to inform passengers with limited experience, with some correcting advice.
If you tell chinese people that they have acted rudely when they are overseas, they are usually horrified because they have lost face.
I have seen western people over re-act in an almost racist way, negatively creating an atmosphere that is easily noted by flight attendants. Huffing and puffing aging westerners sitting in economy complaining about 'service' and fellow non-white travellors is quite off-putting.
Likely they are expressing their true politics and not at all registering a legimate complaint fairly.
Other commments on this thread have mentioned the Beijing Olympics, off topic but what the hell.
Yes, China will shoot itself in the foot and ruin it. Absolutely. No other discussion necessary.

I am a Diamond Card holder on EVA... I fly around 180,000 miles a year with them.
I can tell you that after 7 years of flying with them that the Chinese travelers are rude. They fart and burp at will and don't think twice about it. And I still fly with them. Why? Because I like the schedule and I get out of my mind drunk on EVERY flight.
So they burp and fart and I drink to excess. We are even. They have to put up with my slurring and snoring.
In fact, as soon as the light goes off, I head to the back and ask for a bear. That wakes 'em up. At the lounge in TPE, as I get off the plane from the West coast of the U.S. I am in the lounge drinking at 6 A.M. A real classy guy, that's what I am.

You want rude and ignorant try Olympic air,, fken Greeks,, I only ever flew with them once.
Being the laid back easy going ( rare) Aussie traveller I waited after take-off to be offered the usual round of water,, at that stage having flown 14 times and never having used the "call buzzer" I waited,, and waited and waited,,,WTF !!!
It was near 3 hours before I got a glass of water,,, all the Greeks where hearding their way up to the service area and getting what they wanted and those who sat back doing the right thing got jack-shit.
Then finally it was meal time,,, and as usual two choices,,, The grilled chicken breast with asparagus and Hollandaise sauce or dogs balls in green muck,,, waiting the service in my seat I watch Greek after Greek after Italian after ???? run up the isle insist on the chicken for medical reasons and get what they wanted,, WTF!!!!
Of course I was left to the,,, yep left overs.
By this stage I was a little preturbed,, mass murder was crossing my mind  I asked for Scotch DOUBLE and soda,, 3 in a row,,, I think the air-hostess felt somewhat embarassed and toward the end of the flight said here sir we have these left over,, and proceded to hand me a bag full of those little nip bottles.
I have never contemplated flying Olympic again.
P.S Has anyone noticed the service on Qantas / British air is slipping badly? it is nowhere near the level of Thai airways,,,, might need to change back.
Fark it, I'll just win lotto and get my own jet!!!!!!!!!!!

American carriers are th worst. At least in Asia you can get some eye candy.
Booze, booze and more booze.
Then nothing else really matters ont he flight. One time coming back to the U.S. form TPE on EVA I was so bombed I couldn't fill out my customs declaration, it all came out like one big scribble.
The new Eva lounge for Diamond and first class at TPE has a decent bar, the Chinese guy pouring the drinks doesn't speak any English, but will make anyhting you want and loves to see you get bombed.
One thing that pisses me off on EVa is that the beer never seems cold enough.
Ususally I find it best to drink myself to unconciousness (sp) on EVERY flight and then just wake up when I land. Takes all the pain away. I like to pop a Cialis upon landing in BKK so by the time I get tot he apartment I have about enough energy to shower and cum. Then wake up at around 10 at night and go out on the town. Bedtime around 4 or 5 AM, then sleep till I wake up and start again.
I have never flown economy on EVA, one look at some of the people boarding that are sitting economy is all I need to spend the extra money.
The loung in BKK is ok, nothing like voBKa at 11 AM before boarding to TPE. I get good and hammered there. I twill be interesting to hit the new loung at the new airport. If you ever see a guy drinking voBKa rocks at 11 am at this loung, come up and say hi to thailife !!!!!
I have another bitch on EVA.... you see where they give free upgrades to american express platinum car dholders? Ohhhhhh..... but only TAIWAN issued cards.... so my card issued in the U.S. does not get me the upgrades !!!!!!! WTF ?????? That one pisses me off.

I am with you on that one...I usually get hammered on long flights....I rarley get obnoxious but I am sure I have snored a bit and once I let the flood gates open need to be on the aisle seat.
I am flying EVA for the first time in November (unfortunatly economy class) and was worried about the no liquid thing.....do the attendants on EVA keep the drinks flowing or do they stall on orders after 5 or 6 drinks like american carriers seem to do?
I usually bring either a bottle of ketel one or a couple bottles of wine on with me but dont think this thing will be blown over by the time we leave.

i was NOT able to use the dark FORCE today on the EVA representative tonight in HNL.
tonight was EVA's last flight out of HNL
I had hoped to convince him to continue the HNL-taipei-BKK route, but was not able to use the JEDI mind trick on him
the force was tooo strong with him this day

we are now stuck with China airlines and JAL, and other non-mentioned flights

I am shocked that some of you chaps appear to want to drink to excess on your long flights. No a good idea for avoiding jet lag and one which disturbs other passengers wishing to sleep or work.
I have a THAI friend who tells me that the Brits are the worst offenders in terms of excessive drinking in the business class cabin to the point that she and her colleagues dread working the LHR/BKK flights.
