There are smoking rooms. there is one on ethe floor below departures, just underneath the CX lounge....

It was small, but empty, and far more pleasant than the ones at DM (I know, its not saying much!)

Anyone found any others?

Any "rub and tug" shops inside the terminal? I know it is cheaper and better outside, but what else is there to do when you get to the airport 2-3 hours before your flight?

thanks

Anyone can share some info on taxi from the new airport to Sukhumvit (soi Nana). Late at night how long time would the trip take approximately?

/TMH

Assuming there's no traffic congestion (and there shouldn't be late at night except at the intersection of Sukhumvit and Sois 3 and 4), it will take about 25-30 minutes, possibly a few minutes less if you're lucky.

I used Suvarn four time in the past two weeks (two international arrivals and two international departures). Everything functioned very smoothly each time, no glitches whatsoever. I was particularly impressed with the baggage handling, which had been a trouble spot at least through mid-October. On arrival from the U.S., I pulled the second of two very heavy suitcases off the carousel about 13 minutes after clearing Immigration. I returned with one not-so-heavy suitcase and it took nearly 30 minutes after clearing U.S. Immigration to get it back at JFK. On both inbound trips, Thai Immigration was a snap both inbound and outbound, only two or three people ahead of me in the queue. Check-in on both outbound flights was also painless – no queue at all, I went straight to the check-in counter.

The only slightly disconcerting airport-related moment was getting a taxi to the airport. On both trips from a Suk hotel, the driver wouldn’t do it for less than 400 baht excluding tolls. At 8.15 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, four straight drivers declined the trip even for 400 baht. The reason was the trip back after dropping me off. The drivers said they’d be returning empty and would get stuck in the morning rush, making a trip to the airport a losing proposal. I had taken AOT “limos” from the airport after both inbound flights.

I have experienced the same on my one trip and had to use the more expensive "limo" service to get to the airport

Well, well, it looks like we need to support these taxi drivers who drop off passengers at the Departure Hall. So, next time you come in, and if you are travelling light, head up to the Departure level and flag a cab. That way, you don't have to pay the airport surcharge, just pay the metered charge and tollway fees.

I did that several times at the OAP and a couple of times the security guy at the desk flagged the taxi down and took the 50 baht the driver almost apologised and said sorry have to pay Tax. That was not a problem for me as I had bypassed the huge Q at arrivals

Or alternatively, make sure we all go down to the gorund floor, and get a taxi from the desk. that way legit taxi drivers who qwueue up will not end up leaving empty...
So far, I haven't had a problem getting a taxi to the airport - but I am not leaving from a hotel, so maybe they are pushing harder from there? Or maybe I am just lucky.

So far, teh only problem I have had is not having enough taxis FROM the airport, so having to queue - I wish some of these guys who think they will leave the airport empty would actually try it - they migth find out that it is a good deal after all....

talking to my last taxi driver, he said he thought that the problem was becasue arriving passengers are unsure of taxi arrangements, they are taking the limos, especially on their first trip, but then they take a taxi back to the airport, which I guess causes the imbalance. If everyone took taxis both ways it woudl balance out....

So - don't take limos from the airport, take a taxi - keep these guys busy and 500 baht round trips to the airport will be very lucrative for them!

Janitor, there you go, don't use the taxis in the queues as there are not enough to go around anyway, there is more demand than supply. We should use the ones on the departure hall so that it would justify their trip to the airport, and hopefully that will encourage more of them to go to the airport. We should boycott the limousines though. Someone is making too much money from those.
