Looks like Cathay Pacific is the latest airline to cut back its flights from the US, due to slacking demand and high fuel costs. Starting October 26th, they will eliminate their afternoon flight to HK. I'm sure this will jam their evening flights, as the afternoon ticket holders will have to be re-booked.
I have checked with Cathay. They have only taken away the afternoon flight from Los Angeles. There are still THREE flights a day from New York.

my last trip oct 2nd thru 26th LHR -BKK rang thai to change night flight to afternoon and was told there would be no charge,
due to the night flight was stopping in Zurich,WTF they didnt email to tell me this, the reason, operational something or other,
now its cheaper to book direct http://www.thaiair.com than through an agent here in UK.
dec 15 thru jan 19th £965.00 no miles w class.
but after 2 days of surfing thai air £670.00 m class and full miles, on the 9th dec, but other days £1,000 +,
maybe because the 10th is constitutional day and there is no alcohol sold in BKK, who knows,
thai airs site is like a lottery you've just got to check all the dates.

Yes, the fuel price has gone down. It doesn't mean that the air fares are going to come down. Everyone who is flying now is still paying fuel surcharge. We will probably still be force to pay for it. But I hope you're right, quack quack.

AirAsia Group to lift fuel surcharge

Instead of gradually reducing fuel surcharges in line with falling fuel prices like other airlines, the no-frills AirAsia Group _ including its Thai arm _ is scrapping the extra fee. The decision came after average reference crude prices plunged over the last few weeks to below US$80 a barrel, the level that prompted the airline to pass on the extra cost to passengers as a fuel surcharge.
Crude oil prices have recently hovered around $60-65 _ down from a peak of around $150 in July _ while jet fuel prices have slipped by half to around $75-80 now.
AirAsia, Southeast Asia's largest low-cost carrier, is claiming to be the first airline in the world to abolish the fuel surcharges for all its international and domestic flights, including long-haul services operated by AirAsia X....(More...)

Thanks for the info, I hope that every other airline would follow AirAsia lead. Maybe I should wait to buy my tickets for my trip to LOS in Feb 09.

I booked a ticket on Cathay LAX-BKK, leaving on Feb 13 returning on March 8 for $1130. I paid a bit more as I want a stop over in Hong Kong so I can visit Macau, I met a girl there on my last trip that I will visit. I was set to go via EVA doing an open jaw ticket, but there website is so jacked up I went for Cathay. I look forward to returning to Thailand.
