Teacher, my best of lucks for you getting this done with success. This seems exhausting to me, but I guess love makes all the work worth it. This may seem off topic, but I can not resist. BKK Banger have touched the subject: But does Europe (like Norway) demand this amount of paper mill? (Not that I'm planning to do so, but one never knows...)

Greetings all, Once upon a time, I had a Thai sweetie who wanted to visit the states with me, for Xmas. I thought it might be fun, but knew she had no chance for a tourist visa...BG, no money, no job, no strong family ties...no chance right? But to make the effort, I coughed up the $100 for the app... Low and behold, 2 weeks after applying she was approved after only 2 questions at the window! (yeah 2 weeks, things are a lot slower that time of year). DOH!#$*& Anyway, $1000 airfare, $300 in warm clothes (think frozen wasteland)...ARGH! And it was only a 2 week trip... So tourist visas DO happen...The biggest kicker though, she was jet-lagged and sick and just not impressed with the "gold-paved streets" of America...What the hell was I thinking??? It was hot to see my sweetie bundled up like a little exotic eskimo girl and she was fascinated with snow (particularly my reaction to it being shoved down my pants)... 555 But anyway, good luck with the fiance deal...

As the sayimg goes, ' you have no, you can only get yes ; meaning you have nothing to loose by giving it a shot, only to gain.

Yeah, kepher - how long ago? If it was a few year/months ago, it may be worth a try --- if you're reminescing from the good old days in 50s, then maybe it's a waste of time now Harry

Whew, sorry all. I relocated to Jakarta a month ago and JUST got my dsl hooked up at the apartamen...Things move slowly here. No offense to the distinguished members here, but this is not exaclty the type of board I want to be browsing at the office, if you know what I mean. Now, was this back in Nam or in the 50's??? Ohh, right, its cause I started the post with the good old "Once upon a time" intro...Well, that would have been a good trick, I wasn't born til '77! No, this was for Christmas/New Years 2003...The application/interview process was during the summer slow season, I think July or August '03. It may suprise some to learn that Thailand has a rather low denial rate (for US K visas, among many other things)...Of course its higher for certain demographics (mainly the demographic punters would want to smuggle home) but a low rate nonetheless. Now, try bringing a Cambodian bg home for Christmas, that would be some feat... So ask away if you have any specific questions, I'll try to help...Oh, a TB test is not required. Something like 75% of Thais would convert (PPD converter that is) anyway... cheers, k

What were the two questions your TG was asked, and how about a short FR on how her visit to the US went? Harry

Ha, her visit went something like this...Welcome to Minnesota in December baby...Oh you're gonna sleep all day today? Okay...jet lag hit her bad, slept for at least 3 days. She was impressed with how many Moo barangs she saw in the first 5 minutes...Met the family, who loved her. Did a lot of shopping, tough to find tiny Thai girl sizes...The Mall of America is just another damn mall (and no Thai food court). We tried all 3 of the decent (to me at least) Thai restaurants in town, "mai aroi", she finally ended up buying produce at the local asian market and cooking for herself (and me!). But it was a fun trip in a lot of ways. I loved seeing her react to the falling snow, she was miffed when it kept hitting her in the face. The cheap boots from Robinsons are wholly inadequate when faced with real winter conditions. She loved the snowball fight with 10 of my old HS buddies...We saw Santa Claus at the mall and she turns to me and says "Real???", with a little kid look in her eyes. Another look of wonder when the "gai yai" was brought out for xmas-eve dinner (20lb turkey)... Oh, I had been warned about the INS gauntlet at the airport upon arrival. Our NWA flight was mostly Japanese tourist aiming for the Mall of America. So the foreign passport line was HUGE! The US passport line was nothing...I decided I would wait with her, after 5 minutes an agent told me to take her over to the US line with me, no problems at all...just stamp, stamp, "how long you here", stamp, stamp, "have a nice stay". It was too short of a trip and it would have been better in the summer bottom line. If the intention of the trip had been me gaugeing how she would do living full time in the states ('twasn't), I would say she would do fine... I really do not remember what questions she had. Easy stuff, they interviewers all speak Thai. I think she was asked how long the trip was...If she was excited to go to America...something like that, small talk basically. cheers, k
