Whwn I was there, down to the ground floor, and there were 3 desks set up, applying the same arrangement as the old airport of the ticket and the 50B surcharge.
The policy that was agreed before hand of no taxi's over 5 years old turned out to be another hollow promise. I ended up with a shit heap that could hardly get up a 1:500,000 incline.
The usual hollow promises and failed attempts at organisation. I wonder how much they wasted on their blueprint for traffic management only to see it completely torn up within days of opening?
I wonder what the taxi drivers / owners who paid the (supposed) 20,000B fee to be allowed to pick up feel?...the shit heap I had sure as hell didn't have the permit.
Mind you...all better than the original dumb proposal.

After arriving last time, I went up to departures, there were a couple of taxis waiting that had just dropped off departing passengers, I got to pick a nice new one. Even a couple of police were standing around, no issues whatsoever, same as the old airport. When I departed, I saw that my taxi was waiting where he dropped me for a fare back to BKK.
There is even an elevator to ride up to departures, couldn't be easier. And BK is right, the more people take taxis from departures, the more willing drivers will be to go to the airport for meter fare.
EPs time of travel (early-mid morning) is the worst for traffic from the airport to Bangkok.

My first trip from the new Airport about a week after it opened unfortunately produces one of the old scams of a dodgy meter even though it was a very new Taxi?
Normally I have fairly good idea of what the costs are but being a new Airport virgin so to speak I paid, the return trip which took twice the time in heavy traffic (against the above in light traffic) cost less than half the amount and was similar in price to a trip from the old Airport! Buyer beware!

I was under the impression that the transport blue print was torn up days BEFORE the airport offically opened

It was agreed to tear it up days before, but they couldn't find it at first. Upon identifying the person in possession, it transpired that he was on sick leave as it was the end of the month and he'd been paid.
The day he returned (opening day) he forgot it. The following day he did bring it, but the copy he had was superseded and a search for the latest revison took place.
In the end it was found on the managers desk, who should have had it all along. The reason he didn't find it when requesting it was because he couldn't find anyone to delegate the task to as his cell phone didn't work from that particular golf course.
It was torn up the following day.
I hope that clarifies it for you.

I seem to remember that the GM? was boasting that he had 4 mobiles so he could ALWAYS be contacted!!!! That he worked at the airport 24 hours a day [I didn't realise they had built a golf course there as well]
So which one is going to be sacked for the GM?s mistake this time?
You are correct born there and saw the light when I was 17 1/2 and joined the army. Enjoyed my travels ever since.

You are absolutely right. I had planned to leave the hotel at 7.00 a.m., but the three Eden ladies with whom I'd spent the night insisted on giving me a proper send-off, hence the delay until 8.15 a.m. (flight to HK departed at 10.00 a.m.). Lucky things went as well as they did. I was at the airport at 8.50 a.m., checked in by 9.00 a.m. and through Immigration by 9.10 a.m. It was a long walk to the gate and passengers began boarding just a few minutes after I got to the gate. Flight pulled out exactly at 10.00 a.m.
Next time I'll be sure to start earlier. I'd rather be sitting those extra minutes in Cathay Pacific's lounge drinking a cup of coffee and surfing the Net than sweating in BKK traffic.
As I almost always travel heavy into BKK because of bringing job-related stuff to the BKK office, a limo is a must on arrival. What I could see at the departure level, the cops were shooing away the arriving taxis as soon as the passengers exited the cab.

coming to LOS next month, will follow rule no.1, take a piss just before leaving airplane, going to PTY, always try for a ride share but if that doesn't work is the savings worth the potential hassle trying to catch a taxi at departures CG says no police problems EP says different, at 1:10 in the morning i'm not concerned about a few baht

OK I ran a search on this thread only for massage so don't flame me if it's in some non related thread.
Are there massage places in the arrival area or the departures area before the immigration checkpoint?
I'll be getting in at 6ish, my room will no doubt, not be availabe so early. Getting a massage after the 11 hour flight to kill time and undwind sounds good. I don't think any palces on Suk would be open that early either (?).
