Paid USD$1,352 for Eva Deluxe from the west coast for a May flight, up about 10% from last November. Eva proudly said Deluxe is getting so popular. Damn!

yeah I luv EVA deluxe. paid about 1200 last fall.
was upto $2000 in february, had to fly econ. 1 think that $1300 price is still reasonable, LBM. I would pay that for the extra space. maybe february is busy month with chinese new year.
but even with Econ, I say EVA is the best flight from west coast USA. times are great, and the seats seem reasonable, larger than cathay. CP is more stylish and better food, but EVA is clean and efficient. the food sux but not important to me. and the capper the 2nd leg from taipei to BKK is much shorter than HK to BKK.

What I have done the last 2 trips is to book Econ and upgrade the transPac leg US West cost to Taipei to ED class. On the way back I asked to upgrade (paying for it) when I checked in. Both times they said no seats available, and in the lounge before the flight they called me to the desk and gave me new boarding pass w/ free upgrade to Delux.

I always fly eva because of the delux. booked delux for march, $1100 usd. when I have enough miles I will upgrade to business. But I request the upgrade at the check in counter. the last few trips they said there are no seat in business but will put in stand by. A couple of times I have been upgraded at boarding. But the miles were not charged. looks like eva has a broken process : )

when you say upgrade the transpac leg by paying for it at the counter, you mean with cash or with points? if with cash, how much do they usually ask for? I just booked some econ tickets and was hoping they would have the elite class seats available for some extra cash at check-in.

I had to laugh at the Eva air last chance desk LHR T3 one time.
Two falangs, one PL the other the zoo, these two looked a right couple of characters, larging it up, they even arrived on the disabled buggy.
The one in the zoo said to the Eva rep, "How much to upgrade to PL?"
"Let me see your ticket: Agh, you cannot upgrade with this ticket, you must pay full fare"
" OK, how much full fare?"
"£1,750 pounds one way, cash only!, no credit card!"
No prizes for guessing where he sat

MHO...EVA was the worst plane ride I have ever had to Thailand, granted it was economy class.
Korean, Northwest were waaaaaaaay better..
My wife refuses to fly EVA again..she even said she would pay the differnce herself to fly Korean on our next trip..I wasnt asking but will take it LOL!

Can't say I'm a fan of EVA, even though they often have the best fares from the west coast - maybe that's because I was in economy.
Will second the big thumbs up for Korean Air though! Nice planes, extra leg room even in economy, service and food was good, and Seoul is a nice stopover...

EVA was very good, r/t economy from LAX $700, brand new 777, faster, quieter then a 747, the attendants & their uniforms worked for me

MAN! Where did you find a r/t ticket to BKK from LAX for $700? Was that really your total flight cost? I must not be living right. My China Air r/t ticket, purchased on Expedia, is $995 total for later this month. Granted it's from Phoenix, but still... And I thought I was good at buying tickets... DAMN!
