Lo folks, I arrive in BKK on 28 Sept and will spend the first week in Phuket. I'll then return to BKK and travel up to northern Thailand, into Laos and down to Cambodia (time permitting). I have 14 days for this travel, as I have to be back in BKK to meet some friends on 20 Oct before we head down to Pattaya for some R & R. What is the best method getting around the area I'm planing to visit (bus/train) or will I have to use both? I want a leisurely trip, spend 2-3 days in a place and move on. Is two weeks enough to take in the area I propose travelling through? Also, any particular northern Thialand towns (Chang Mai, Chang Rai et cetera) better for meeting ladies than others? Also, could it be a problem in the smaller towns finding a hotel that will accept guests for the night? Cheers Dazzer

Hi Dazzer. http://www.asia-discovery.com/train.htm i find this is a good guide for trains to N.Thailand. i took the overnight train to Nong Khai and recommend the service. hope this is of some help. Nong Khai is a good place to enter Laos as it is just across the Mekong River from Vientiene. sorry i can't help with the bus question or where to find girls etc as i was with my girl at the time and we did not stay around the area.

Hi nokna, Thanks for the info, handy site. I was thinking of going BKK to Surin and then onto Chang Mai, but I don't see a train to there. Only reason I was thinking of going to Surin was a lot of the girls in Pattaya were from this area. Thanks for the help, I'll do a little more reserach and posting and see what I dig up. I may just go straight up to Chiang Mai. Site you gave me will get good use. Cheers Dazzer

I travelled the other way around last winter, PP-Laos-Chiang Rai. From Phnom Pehn to Si-Pahn-Don in Laos is 2 days by boat, after that its better by bus to Vientiane but still a long way. If you only got 2 weeks I'd considder flying from Vientiane to PP, take the boat to Siem Reap for some temples. (Realy on of the major sites in the world) and then out to Thailand again.

Thanks Dutch, sounds like a good idea to fly from Vientiane to PP, as it is a big of a hike and does not seem like much between. Cheers Dazz
