Hi everyone, I'm travelling to Thailand (first time!) on 12/20-12/30 this year (flight already booked). My plan is to spend 4 nights in Bangkok, 2 nights in Cambodia, and 3 nights in Ko Samui and the surrounding islands (tentatively in that order). I really want to visit Angkor Wat. My only question is about travelling to Siem Reap from Bangkok. I read on thailand.com and some other sites that the ground route is somewhat dangerous and uncomfortable and long, so I'd like to fly if possible. However, if you think its not a problem (keep in mind me and my companions are Americans), I'm willing to consider a bus or private car. In that case, please tell me where can I find more details about booking travel on this route? Anyway, assuming I'm going to fly there... according to travelocity.com, its a $300 round trip on Bangkok Air. I've heard its much cheaper if you buy the tickets in Thailand. Also, since my plans could change suddenly, I don't want to get a non-refundable ticket now. I'd rather buy our tickets when we land or during our first 4 days in Bangkok. My question then, is... since I'm going during the peak travel time, are the flights to Siem Reap going to be overbooked and difficult to get tickets for? Is it reasonably sure that I can get tickets for the days I want once I'm in Thailand, or is it better to buy them beforehand? The reason why I'm reluctant to "play it by ear" and just do things as they happen, is that: 1) I'm travelling with 4-5 other buddies but we aren't all going to Cambodia, so we need to pre-arrange a meeting time and place for when we get back, and 2) Since this is the peak season for both countries, I'm worried about hotels and flights being overbooked if I don't get reservations soon. The same question applies for my days in Ko Samui... is it better to book the hotel now, or in December, or just when I get there? Am I worrying too much? I'd really appreciate any advice... Thanks!

Don't worry, there are plenty of flights from different carriers offering service between BKK and Cambodia. Bangkok Air is actually more expensive. I paid 9,200 Baht for BKK->SEAP & PNH->BKK in early Sept. Later, I was told President Airlines offering round trip BKK-PNH for about 6,000 Baht only! >Is it reasonably sure that I can get tickets for the days >I want once I'm in Thailand..... You can always email the travel agents in BKK and have them reserve the tickets for you in advance. That's what I did. Except I didn't know about the special fares from President Airlines :-( As for Ko Samui, I would suggest you to reserve the rooms in advance, especially for peak holiday season. And rooms with beach view always sell out fast. Cheers, Pete
