bros,
the time has come for me to come back to LOS. Arriving Jan 12th for about 10 days. Has anyone ever flown on Thai 1st? I will be flying from lax to bkk via narita. I have another option, singapore 1st, which I hear is a lot better, but have to go lax to sing via narita, wait 7 hrs, then on to BKK about 10 hrs later than on Thai.

Any opinions/reviews, on thai first, or singapore?

Singapore 1st rocks, so does Cathay, but cathay's biz is top class. I flew on Thai's 1st from Hongkong to BKK and didn't like it at all : (

But, then it's all "up to you".

Thai first class is good, you'll like it, especially if you are used to business class. The other airlines might be a step above (might not) but you will be in BKK many hours before you would if you flew SIN.

For more talk on airlines, check out this site:

In that day, I will probably be on that same flight as you!

IMHO TG first class falls well short of CX, SQ, and BA first class products.

Depending on which aircraft is being used you may get the full sleeper beds, which are great - if they are using the older equipment on your flight then the first class seats and entertainment set up is very dated. Granted TG is in the process of rectifying this.

The food and beverage selection is good but cabin staff service (training) can be lacking - particularly on a full flight when cabin staff from business class lend a helping hand.

The biggest drawback with TG first is a cultural issue when there is a MP, VIP, a well connected individual or even worse a non-revenue paying TG staff member on board. In these instances, normal fare paying passengers are treated second best - starting at the lounge and continuing right through the flight.

If you are taking advantange of TG's 'two for one' offer then its first class is value for money - if you're paying full wack then other airlines offer a better all round product.

The service I got was crappy, the food was bad (as in taste, or maybe I selected wrong!), it was an OOOOLD 747 that rattled all the way, the seats sucked. Ofcourse, I came from Toronto to HKG in a sweet Cathay flight, so I guess the contrast made it worse!

Flew from BKK to Singapore on economy, and believe it or not, the service was better, the food was ok (for economy) and the seats were ok too! I guess that particular flight sucked.

RR,
hey whats your expert and highly valued opinion on Thai Biz class, looking at it for a trip to Oz in January, but from what I have seen of some Biz sections on Thai flights, it looks pretty sad and not sure if the extra cost of around $1500AUD is worth it per seat. BA and Qantas for sure, but not sure about Thai. I will also be paying for an extra seat for a nanny, so not sure if I would want to pay that much for her, or just suck it and put up with economy for 9 hours, it probably wont kill me, but it might bore me to death.

NM,

TG business class is just okay - nothing special.

A couple of things (other than a free bj) that can make the ride a bit better are:

If you're on the upperdeck (SYD flights) try and get the 4 seats by the emergency exit - massive leg room. The bins are quite small though, so if you have quite a bit of carry on luggage then avoid the upperdeck.

On some aircraft, TG is using the right hand side of the front business class cabin as a galley for first class. The small business section that remains is well laid out with plenty of room to move about. Big bins and probably the prefered section for regular b/c travellers.

Food and beverage is adequate - and it's pure pot luck on crew service / attitude on the day.

Again, if it's a 'two for one deal' then it's good value. Otherwise there are better product offerings from BA/QF or SQ for Oz.

You could always put the family and Nanny in the back of the bus and enjoy yourself up front!

Lol, I had thought of at least putting the nanny down the back, but then she would not be able to come up front and look after the little bugger when he is screaming his head off and keeping all the Biz class pax awake !
The Tg 2 for 1 deal is based on full price tickets yes ?, so I don't know exactly how much full price is, but someone who is helping with ticketing said they are a lot, same as Qantas, full price is about 6k I think. Funny thing is the other night I was playing around on the the VirginBlue website looking for the price of a flight for someone else and went onto Qanats and punched in my dates for a Biz tickets and the quote came back at just a tad over 20k, f*ck me, I could buy a boat and sail there for that much.
I like you idea about bj's in Biz class, puts a new light on 'B' Class.

I agree with RR that flying 1st on SQ, CX and BA metal is better than TG.

Also, for all your paid commercial aviation needs go to the forum that CG posted a link above. I challenge you all to find my handle there he he he. 5 beers to whoever does. A hint: there I am a nice guy 555.

I was flying to Japan on Thai 1st. class. If I were to go again, I believe I could - almost- get better service in Economy class with Cathay or Singapore Air.

EVA air has a thing between Business and Economy, excellent value, big seats etc. and are flying from LA to BKK via Taiwan, with a stop over for around 2 hours. If I were to fly to LA, I would 100% use EVA again.
