Was reading today that a lot of Asian discount airlines are starting up like Ryanair in Europe and Southwest in the US. AirAsia is partly owned by Ryanair. Asia may become alot closer and cheaper for regional travel.

Regional carriers are a good idea IF one of them will come up with a BKK-WFC*-BKK route that will have me back home in less then 8 hours. The obvious purpose, visa runs.

Unfortunately, AirAsia's routes will probably be backwards for this purpose and require an overnight stay in some place I don't want to be.

* WFC = Who F*cking Cares

I swear there's a business to be made here doing once-a-week charter flights from BKK to the closest international destination and immediately back.

Charters ? I'd like to look into that. Britannia Airways used to fly a Boeing B767-200 from Manchester down to Gatwick then to Dohar (?) for refuelling, then on to Phuket. This was for package deals in various holiday brochures. They no longer fly this route. I don't know why they stopped?

Last December I flew from Singapore to Bangkok with Swissair one way. It cost about £85 sterling. Good service, it was the cheapest flight I could get. I had to fly to Singapore as my Lufthansa Frankfurt-BKK flight was full !

Ah, yes that's right Abu Dhabi.
14 hours from Gatwick. The flight if you got on at Manchester must have seemed that it went on forever?
I would think the leg-room would not be too great either.
That doesn't bother me since I am a short-arse !
