Has anyone tried the new business class on Qantas recently, seems to be offering a flat bed, good service etc. Also is it available on all QF1/QF2 flights LHR to BKK yet I have been offered a good fare and seats for my trip next month and am tempted to splash out a little more over and above my old favourite Finnair for a direct flight and more comfort and service. Any views would be appreciated.

I've travelled on BA with their chair-bed seats, and they are really good. One time I flew from Tokyo to London, and had been out in Tokyo all night, so no sleep. Slept solidly for 9 hours on the flight, just like a night in my own bed. As BA and Quantas are closely tied, I would assume the concept is similar. One interesting point is the window seats face backwards, and one time I was sat, looking directly down the wing. I never realised how much they move diring take off and landing.

Thanks for that I have travelled a lot on the NCW BA seat (I actually did a lot of work for its intoroduction when I worked at BA). The Qantas seat looks very different, closer to the seat Virgin are about to scrap (and which lufthansa are just about to introduce). The wings are designed to move substantially so no probs there, although I have never really liked the backwards facing seat. If anyone has any info on the new Qantas seat I would be grateful. Although my research suggests that it isnt available on all flights and if so am reluctant to pay an extra £1000 over and above my normal bus class choice UK to BKK for next month.

I used it and it was great, it was a qantas flight but shared with BA, so we got the beds, they are awesome, very comfy, I also do not like rearward seats, but once airborned, you just do not notice any difference, kick back, enjpy the movies, food and service and help yourself to the free munchies bar. Do you mind how much the tickets are now, I am looking at it next month for Bkk-Mlb-Bkk

NM Qantas seem to be pitching quite low with their rates right now. Was £2k to BKK from LHR J Class, which (for a pretty flexible ticket) is about £500 cheaper than BA, for maybe a better service. The new QF seat doesnt have any rear facing seats and seems wider than BA New Club, but does have that silly middle seat in 2-3-2 config (not unlike Cathay). I will have to give it a whilrl when I can be confident of definitely getting the new seat rather than the old. Would p*** me off big time to pay twice as much for same seat (more or less) as Finnair. In the end I went with Finnair and trousered the spare £1k, since it seems that quite a lot of the Qantas fleet isn't embodied with the new seat. Not sure what QF are offering from BKK but seem to be able to get J class to Oz from LHR right now for around thee £2.5k mark.

IMO, Quantas has the worst first class bed: they are too low and too narrow. For Asia travel (to/from), I prefer SQ, BA and CX metal (in that order) For info on anything related to air travel... I suggest this forum: http://www.flyertalk.com

Have tried the new Qantas business class seatbeds. Much better than previous seats in Qantas business but still not up to BA standards as the beds are not flat. Nice massager built into the chair tho ...but you gotta eat all that awful aussie food......i have flown qantas many times (as my company is cheap)...both business and first and the food is atrocious....they have the same food in every class, just different size portions of the damn stuff with different cutlery. I think that they have a deal with 'Tyne Brand canned lamb stew'. Yuk yuk yuk.

just curious to know what you guys are paying for business class/first class fares to BKK...specially from NY...the cost seems to be very high, and I am wondering if anyone has found a cheaper source for these tickets..

You might want to look at buying in BKK rather than NY, and nest a trip. You might also think about a RTW fare, probably a good option from NY I would have thought.
