HI Bros, I am moving to Pattaya. The first week of March is my tentative arrival time which is pretty firm but not set in stone. I used to spend every weenend in Bangkok in the early 70's but I have not been back since. Some of the websites advertise having a girl meet you at the airport and show you around for about 1500 baht which includes some extras. I would like to spend a few days in Bangkok prior to going to Pattaya. Do you guys recommend this service or is it just a rip-off. Do any of you have suggestions on how to start my return to the Land of Smiles off right ? Any suggestions will be considered and appreciated.

THB 1500 sounds low for the services you are seeking. There has been quite a bit of inflation since your last visit. The cab fare from the airport to a downtown hotel is around THB 350.
I would suggest you check in to your hotel and then seek some action from one of the bar girls and then take it from there.

sorry but 1500 baht these days are for the extras only. considering that the girl will also meet you at the airport and show you around they might be asking for 15,000/- baht

I want to thank everyone for their comments but rather than worry about the cost which varies from 1500 to 7500 baht depending on the source. I am more concerned about the best way to find my way around Bangkok since it has been so many years since I have been there. I am basically looking for a quide. Any suggestions?

The type of service you describe sounds like an escort service and there are plenty.
Other individuals are available, check out the classifieds on this forum.
There are folks there who may be able to help you or you can advertise for someone to do what you want.
Your other option is to get to town, get to a hotel and either go to a bar and arrange a private guide, or get the hotel to arrange a guided tour for you.

I was there last week. This is what I did. Prior to my arrival I bought a map of Bangkok, a BK travel guide of Thailand and a lonely panet book on Bangkok. These books give all the tourist information. I also joined this forum for information on the extracurricular activities the books cannot mention.
I cheecked into the JW Marriott, freshened up and headed towards the bars. Within a few minutes I hooked up with a girl. We hung around the bar and then headed to my room for some action. She spent the night and the next day we went to all the temples, the Royal Palace, boat ride and other tourist places. During the day she played the role as a guide. She was with me for my entire stay. This helped a great deal.

I will assume your looking for a honest to god real tour guide. When you arrive at your hotel stop by the tour desk and have them arrange from a local tour company a guide. Easy to do and the guide should arrive within the hour. I would suggust you stay near Nana, excellent location to all the night life and the sky-train station is right there. Marriot, Landmark and the Nana Hotel are guest friendly. All the taxi drivers know where they are.
