I know air travel is available, does anyone know of any buslines with direct routes or trains that go from BKK to Phnom Phen?

Bangkok to Phnom Penh?
No trains
No buses.
You can take a train to Aranyaprathet then hire a car or van on the Cambodian side for a harrowing 6 to 12 hrs drive (depending on weather) over bad roads.
Or you can bus to Hat Lek, cross to Ko Kong, then boat to the next port then overland to PP. Very dicey, and boats don't run in rainy season (now).
All in all, if you must go to PP, flying is by far the least distressing method.
Be prepared for a culture shock. Thailand is as safe as Disney World. Cambodia is like swimming in a shark tank when the great whites haven't been fed for a while. And PP is the worst place in Cambodia. You need to know the rules, and they are basically Moscow Rules. I am talking about armed robbery in broad daylight and chances are about 50/50 that complaining to the cops won't help because the robbers are the cops. I'm talking about drug setups and extortion. The basic rules are, don't travel alone, don't go out at night except by taxi, and be paraboid as hell. Surely you are not going there for fun?

Bangkok Airways has a route to Siem Riep.
I dont know about the girl action there. I have never been to Cambodia. Thailand is too much fun.
But if you spend an hour or two ,reading this site, i think most of your questions will be answered.
