I'm located in Chicago, but have just learned I will be traveling to London in the middle of July for business. Since I'm partway to Thailand then, I want to take this chance to cut a lot of travel time out. I've looked through the travel section and found out about agencies like trailfinders, westeast, et al and various "travel".co.uk's. I have only looked at internet sites so far and found fares in the mid/upper 500 pound range. Should I buy a ticket (for a 3 week trip spanning july/aug) now or wait a while and hope to get a better fare? Will the fares drop to fill the seats not sold? poskat

Try Priceline.com. I was able to get a round trip ticket from Columbus Oh to Bangkok for under $1000.

poskat Fares are usually best when bought in the country of departure. It is usually possible to get from London Heathrow to BKK return for around 330 GBP on non stop flight. Partway to LOS? You are still 12 hours away. Give your dates and I will get some prices when booked in UK.

Dave I want to travel from London to Los july 21/22-aug 12/14. If you want to check some agencies like trailfinders etc for me, great. I hadn't called any of them yet as I started looking yesterday. But my question, still, is whether I might find a better price as my travel dates get a bit closer. Considering the flight time from Chicago is 20+ hrs, a 12hr flight can be, I think, considered starting part (not half) way. poskat

with? I started to get some quotes today for that period and the best non stop I found was 625GBP. Admittedly I only just started, but that is school holiday time so prices go high.

To both Yurune and poskat, try ebookers.co.uk, as well as trailfinders etc. AS Dave rightly points out, you can get fares from approx £330 (booked EVA with trailfinders - Non stop to BKK) Previous time I booked was £495 Quantas with e-bookers. Depends totally on time of year, week, etc etc

Trouble is you are travelling at peak holiday time (for UK) and it is very dificult to find cheap fairs. When in London try trailfinders they have always done me proud. PM me for land line #'s if you want

Thanks for the replies Bros. I have the trailfinders numbers from their website and will give them a call. They seem to get the most frequent reports of good prices.

Travel days and times also play a part in fare cost's, try midweek days rather than w/e and stear well clear of school holiday times. I'm lucky at the moment living in asia with 3 asian carriers flying several flights per day, KLM does come out the cheapest though with there evening flight. with just enough time for some gogo pickings at the other end.

Kev ebookers was where I got the quote I mentioned. EVA - 625 BA & Q - 715 Thai - 720 As I said that is an expensive time of year, I doubt direct flights will be got for 330. I have better options to try....but they need to be done on phone not web...
