Just walk in - be no trouble ; actually some very cheap deals with Thai now ... probably worth a look. Big shortage of Mr. HKs,Taiwans,S'pore's etc - so apart form travel related industries doing it hard, many P4Ps struggling to get an earn just now as well ......

"Cabinet says ‘no’ to tourism cash boost
KARON: The central Government has refused to provide any direct financial assistance to Phuket tourism businesses suffering from the
effects of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars).
Speaking after the Cabinet meeting at the Phuket Arcadia Beach Resort today, government spokesman Maj Sitha Thiwaree said, “Instead
of giving money to help Phuket tourism the Government will set up a tour package to reward outstanding students and government
officers.”

What is the cost of the bus from BKK to Phuket? How long does it take? Anyone know the current cost of airfare.... with the slowdown in tourism, has the Airline lowered the fare?

fare from BKK to HKT is 2655 one way as of 14:25(Thailand time).
bus journey is a long long time,very cheap but around 12-14 hours.

plenty of deals around for about 5200, return airfare + 2 nights accomodation, and in good hotels, and am sure no problem to extend .... re downturn, yeh, even note the Nana/Patpong girls doing it hard, be back to the old days soon of a "purple" for a long time !!
