Hello all - Just a note about something that has happened to me this trip and last trip as well - when you are going from Soi Cowboy to Nana the natural thing is to go out to Soi Asoke and grab a cab, and there are always cabs sitting there waiting. Even the ones with "Taxi Meter" will say to you "100B to Nana". Ignore them, go out to the street and flag down a moving cab. They will go out to Sukhomvit for a couple of blocks, turn right and go through a maze of side streets and back alleys before emerging on Soi 3 before the Sukhomvit intersection. Even with the slow traffic light here, we were deposited in front of the Dynasty for 41B total. Better than 100B, no?

Can also take sky train for 15B or walk for free and enjoy the scenery along the way too.

I've always made it a hard fast rule NEVER to use a stationary taxi. I rarely visit Silom and this is the worst at night......the local taxi mafia will not even allow other taxis into the area to pick up on Silom going North, I've had this confirmed by several taxi drivers. I always cross and get a southbound taxi and turn up through Convent to Sathorn going North. I've never had a problem with taxi drivers in general....until this weekend I've been travelling aound with lets say two obvious tourists that have been visiting. Walking out of a hotel yesterday the bell boy called the cab and told him where to go.....He got quite a shock when he tried to go completely the wrong way and I pointed it out to him.....the other was a "didn't turn on the meter" which I completely failed to notice.....he himself pointed it out halfway through.....I told him no problem and gave him what I considered would have been the correct fare.....he at first thought it a little low....but a quck explanation seemed to put him right. Co-incidence?...I think not

skytrain is only B10, but if taking a taxi, walk out to sukhumvit, cross the street and it is a straight shot down to soi 4 . going soi 3 can be really congested ..

From my first time walking out of Don Muang, I have almost never taken a stationary taxi. (This was a couple decades ago and such a thing was possible at the old DM). This Yurune guy seems to be reasonably switched on...

My one bad experience with cabs was when I got into a cab in Soi 4 opposite the NEP and then directed him to take me to Times Square (because I was getting late!!). Stupidest thing ever to do. Instead of going on Sukhumvit Road, the cab reversed, went down back into Soi 4, took a left turn and another left to come to Suk Road, then turned back towards Nana and, as I watched in horror, he turned right at the Nana intersection, then got into the Bumrungrad hospital premises to take a detour round its driveway, then came back to Suk Road, and as I almost screamed at him, he turned left towards Time Square. The result ? Paid a fare of 50 baht, got late for my meeting, and a solid lesson to walk short distances on Sukhumvit rather than take a cab.

Kaymanx, going to Times Square from Soi 4, is not easy at all. The Taxi driver didn't know the short cut via the tobacco factory. If he took that route it could have been faster, as you could come out at Asoke and then to Times Square, then again, if you have bad traffic you are screwed anyway. The BTS would have been a quickest option.

IMHO just avoid the cabs always sitting there waiting. The moment they shout $$$ Baht for any ride just walk away and ignore them, go out to the street and flag down a moving cab. That's your best option.
