I am returning to LOS in November for my third trip in six months. My Thai girlfriend wants to visit her parents in Nong Kai but I don't want to drive it again and I don't want to fly. I would like to take the train, 1st class, for the 10 hour ride. Have any of you traveled this route or 1st class in Thailand? Thanks

If you've not travelled in LOS much before you are in for a treat (sarcastic)...
I've not gone North on the train, but have gone to Malaysia from Hua Lumponge before.
The ride wasn't that bad actually, but got hairy at the day-time interchange where people loaded on sacks of beans or potatoes and even wildlife (chickens, ducks, etc.)
Luckily the trip was almost over, so only had to put up with the wildlife a short time.
but, I don't think a trip to the NorthEast (Esahn) would be much different, and maybe with even more wildlife and sacks of produce...
I didn't know there was a train...my friends all go by bus
