Air ticket is so damn expensive around Christmas.
The best prices currently I can find is at least $1200+ from the west coast.
What would be the target price for traveling around Christmas?

High Season !...everywhere $$$$$$$$ big bucks.
Try multiple trips/ vacation towns at same time....friends are seeing GF's in London from SFO then going to BKK around X-Mas for same price as SFO to BKK. Gettin milage up too and killin two birds with one stone effect.

I want to depart on Dec 23rd.. I tried Christmas Eve but the price is not much different.
I definitely don't want to leave on Christmas day!

I know where I should buy ticket, but I want to know about the target price around Christmas time.
Prices on a web site change every week. I surely don't want to buy the ticket now when the best price I can find is $1200. I want to know what price would be considered as "cheap" during the Christmas season so when I see that price, I can just grab the ticket.

Have you tried Expedia?
I just checked and they are showing a price of 1,064.50 from Los Angeles through San Jose through Tokyo then to Bangkok.
I don't know where on the west coast you are at, but atleast it's cheaper than 1200.00

joybkk, I can't advise you on where to get the cheapest tickets from, all I can tell you is the longer you leave it the prices are going to go up not down, good luck.

I just checked SFO-BKK on 23 Dec and found these sample fares (which may or may not still be available) :
