Dear Bro's,
I've looked through the travel threads and found nothing on Northwest Airlines...my agent is offering r/t business class from NY for $3150. I've found better deals but they involve buying other people's award miles through people on whom I can't find any independent information, and in addition I can't accrue miles of my own. The Northwest route is JFK-NTA-BKK. Has anyone taken Northwest business? How are the amenities (seats, in-seat movies, food, service etc.) ?

NWA business class is good. They just change their seat about 1 year ago, Now most of the 747 has the movie on demand, and seat is sleeper seat like other airline. The service if on par with other airline but not exceptional. Food is good, but I usually does not eat much on plane. Overall I would recommend.

I fly NWA a lot - over 100,000 miles a year. Their World Business Class is quite good, as far as US-based airlines go. Most of their 747-400's have been upgraded with their new sleeper seats and they're comfortable with movies on demand and in-seat power so that you can use your laptop/recharge your cell phone, etc. during the long flight. NWA is no longer using Boeing 747's between NRT and BKK. Instead, they've switched over to the Airbus A330-200. These are NWA's newest planes in their fleet and they're great to fly in. Overhead compartments appear to be larger. Flew in them recently, and really look forward to flying again in them. I think you'll enjoy them - not a bad way to travel.

If you don't want to travel business class or maybe can find something cheaper, Northwest should be $900 or less depending on the dates you travel. Its not how you travel, its what you do when you get to Thailand.

Compared to Asian-based airlines, I'll be the first to say that US-based airlines pretty much sucks. Because I travel quite a bit, I've decided to pick NWA because they do fly to BKK and I get to accumulate frequent flyer miles with them to maintain my Platinum Elite status. They're very generous when it comes to free upgrades. As long as there is an empty seat in first class, you'll get a free automatic upgrade without even having to request for it. In all my US-domestic flights, I've never flown in coach/economy since becoming a FF with NWA. This "automatic free upgrade" policy does not officially extend to their international flights. Even though it is against their free upgrade policy, they've also upgraded me on numerous occasions to World Business Class for free during my flights to BKK. Perhaps just another perk for being loyal FF with them. NWA may not be the best, but sitting up front in World Business Class in one of their planes sure beats sitting in the Economy class of Singapore Airlines any day. However, I did get a chance to fly on SIA's new A340-500 nonstop from LAX to SIN in their "Executive Economy" class and enjoyed the flight, in spite of it being 18 hours non-stop. Great plane. No wonder Airbus has now surpassed Boeing as the number 1 commercial aircraft maker in the world.

You can't judge an airplane manufacturing company by flying on one airline. The airlines have the interiors made to their specifications, and it is well known that Singapore Airlines has better interiors than most other airlines. When an airline buys a plane, they can get just about any seating configuration and interior accommodations they desire (and are willing to pay for). During the life of the aircraft, the interior will usually be completely replaced several times.

Sorry, Mr. Alan, I meant, Lockheed, not TWA. TWA was my favorite U.S. based Airline and they use to fly the Lockheed L-1011. My apologies.
