I have a reservation which cannot be cancelled/ I am american citizen and have now found out that the Thai rule for passport is 30 days, not 31. When I get to Don Meung can I get a 1 day visa and if so, what penalties will be inflicted on me Would appreciate any solution that does not tell me to go to the Thai consul

The penalties that "can" be inflicted on you are quite severe. A prison sentence, a heavy fine, deportation without privilege of re-admission ever. What "will" happen is... probably nothing. Most people get a pass on an overstay of only a single day, and maybe a brief lecture. At worst, they'll fine you a couple thousand baht. If you really want to toe the line, take a day-trip to Cambo or Laos. Stamp out, stamp back in, get a new 30 days. Don't stress. Enjoy your trip.

If it's a tourist visa and they treat US citizens the same as UK subjects then just go to the Immigration office in Bangkok and get an extension (1,900B I think).

Bull.... just take a day overstay (THB 200). Payable at the airport upon departure. Not a lot of risk to overstay a single day. Small fine, no lectures. Nice 'n easy.... The only problem you can face is that the airline refuses to take you on board because your visa is shorter than the departure date. Just tell 'em that you will go to another country first.

They give you a one day grace. Last time I returned missed my flight left day after visa expired no word mentioned upon exit.

Just ignore everything you have read here and get down to a 7-11 and get a bottle of Jack Daniels and some coke...The bottled kind!!! Have a good drink before you go to the airport and it will all sort itself out in the end. Plus you get to sleep on the plane faster... Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in your plight.... TC = Today Considerate ps. There is a plethora (did I spell that write) of information available on "Visa" if you use our search engine...

Gimpy Thanks for the advice, sent a letter to Immigration in Bangkok and asked for 24 hour extension, will report back when I hear from them. Really hate to take chance at departure time, rather have "permission" prior Thanks again, and it does prove that nice guys do read the forum. Unfortunately, a few assholes enjoy writing garbage and get their jolly's writing nasty letters, probably they cannot get laid in Bangkok with a fistful of baht

Seems a little extreme, old chap! Of the five people who kindly bothered trying to help you... 1) VJ gave accurate information. They could deport you, never to return. Very unlikely though. If they (or you) get *really* arsey they might fine you. You can pop out and back again and get an extension that way. 2) I'm sometimes a bit of a girl's blouse: If you're really worried you can stay in Bangkok and for cash get a proper, legal extension. Like I've done in the past. 3) The good Doctor: They never bother doing anything about small (or even massively long) overstays. Almost 110 per cent of the time you'll be OK. 4) Gimpy: The old 'grace' period. I've gotten away with five days and nobody said a word. Maybe they just don't notice most of the time. There's no legal 'grace' period, but lots of people get away with single day overstays. 5) Triyclops: A few bevvies and everything will be OK! Possibly the best advice (if you don't everdo it) and also very true. So what's yer problem?

Dr. Love's answer was the most correct under normal circumstances...been there,,,,done that. Only disadvantage I see is possibility of being discovered by authorities before you reach airport. If this is a concern, then the 15 day extension for approx 1900 baht is another simple option. Perhaps Dr. Love does have attitude at times. Seems as if someone else has serious issues.
