Those fares must have quickly sold out. Been checking several websites (Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, UA and others) for mid-late February trip from LAX and can't get below high $900's on UA, where all of my miles exist. Looks like I may use a Star Alliance partner like Thai for $799.

RR - check out EVA Air too. $750 will buy you a one year validity - open return LAX/BKK/LAX.
If you are staying a couple of weeks & can commit to a date to travel back home the price drops to $550.
UA is expensive. BigD gets whacked for the Philly leg. (big style)

Travelocity still shows availability from PHL-BKK as late as March for $756. r/t including taxes. Flying out of PHL has never been the cheapest.
Cheap Charley likes flying UA, I get double frequent flyer miles. I pay for two and the third one is FREE. I'm a Premier Executive in their frequent flyer program.

UAL has the great fares on their website, no need to go through any web agent. Book directly off their site, and save the $10 handling fee. UAL out of San Francisco booked at $714 net for next March, but the seats are selling out fast. The fare is $50 cheaper than last Sept trip.

I'm seeing UA Web Fares on Travelocity for USD 767.00 after tax (Ex TX) if you're really flexible with dates. I don't like UA and I don't have any miles with them, but if I did I suppose I might act on this.
My previous trips' after-tax rates...
2003 April Ex TX @ 705 RT AA & UA
2003 November Ex NY @ 850 JL/JO (Weekend + Stopover)
2004 November Ex TX @ 805 AA, TG, & JO
After this last trip I think I'm hooked on JL/JO. Unless the price difference is beyond measure I'm dumping AA.

Open dates from LAX on UA ?... China Air same.
They are fast from SEA to Narita though; 9 hours.
Still prices are whacked out lately.

Have averaged 730 out of Seattle on UA the past two years. Sure wish there on time record would improve into BKK. I have not found any of travel agent web sites to be cheaper than United's own.
EVA leaves SEA at 3am no thanks.

Love EVA and CX they have the best arrival and DEP times as well as bypassing NRT, only problem for me is that I am a mileage whore. I am stuck with UA because of my 1K FF staus, with the 2x miles, free upgrades and star alliance lounge access. Too many damn perks to give up for better times, although I am tempted. I somehow manage to squeeze out two flights with CX every year.
Any fare from the East Coast US to BKK under $900 is a good fare on UA and any fare from any region u can get in the $700 range you just buy it.
UA is always going to cost more than the other carriers as well as have more restrictions on the tickets but if you have FF status with them then it is worth the premium.
