I will soon be getting a 2-month tourist visa (I have a British passport) to go to Thailand next week. I have 2 questions I hope someone can help with:
1) During these 2 months that I'm in Thailand, I may want to leave the country for a few days or maybe a week, then come back into Thailand again. Does my tourist visa cover me doing this kind of thing? Or will I need to get another visa of some kind when I come back into Bangkok?
2) Is it possible to extent the 2-month tourist visa while I'm in Thailand? (in the same way that you can for a 30-day visa)? If so, for how long? and what cost?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

If you want to leave Thailand and come back during your 60 day visa period, you will need to get a 'multiple entry' visa. Here in the US, the consulate charges about $15 per extra entry, but I don't think you can get more than 3. Each time you come back, you start the clock at 60 days, but you use up an entry. If, for example, you leave after 10 days, you lose the other 50 days on the first entry, but get another 60 day visa when you re-enter.
You can get a 30 day extension to your visa at the Thai Immigration office on Soi Suan Pluu (Sathorn area), for (I think) 500THB . Be sure to do this at least 10 days before your visa expires, and take some passport photos (2, I think) with you.

To get a Thai tourist visa here in India, we have to furnish the ticket showing the dates of travel (along with the hotel booking confirmation and a xerox of the credit card!!!!). If one wants a multiple entry visa, the ticket has to show the dates. I do not know if this is a universal rule.
Ofcourse you can always get a visa on arrival. It just means a 15/20 minutes delay at the airport.

I have discovered you don't need a multiple entry visa - you can simply get a re-entry permit (500 Baht) from the immigration office, or at the airport.
