Think about exploring a different area of Thailand....How much is a flight (about) to Ko Samui from BKK? Also is Ko Samui more beatiful than Pattaya?

There is only one airline that goes to Samui so variation on flight costs will be minimal. I booked online with Bangkok Airways directly. I saw an ad in a travel agents window in Lamai and their price was only a couple of hundred baht cheaper.
Also is Ko Samui more beatiful than Pattaya?

Depends on your definition of "beatiful" (sic). If you are looking for a place that has beaches etc like you see in the brochures - then yes Samui would be better (water cleaner - (some) deserted spots on the Island etc). If you are more interested in the nightlife - Pattaya hands down.
In saying that, when I was leaving the airport, looking out the window I was thinking what a "bloody dump". Didn't really changed my mind on that thought until after the first 24 hours.

As has been said the only airline to Samui is Bangkok Airways. The standard fare is an outrageous Bt7000 (plus a further Bt400 airport tax when you leave).
You can save a bit by taking advantage of their internet booking system @ http://www.bangkokair.com. In fact you can book for as little as Bt4000 if you plan and are flexible.
Koh Samui is beautiful and the nightlife can be a lot of fun. The big problem is the hooker scene. Koh Samui hookers are 'in general' the most ugly in Thailand - the same can be said for the freelancers too. At the same time, if you go there, you will see there is quite a lot of competition for the ugly hookers.
Bottom line. Koh Samui is a great place as long as you 'bring your own' - you may end up fairly miserable if you plan to go hunting there. Prices for most things are more Phuket than Pattaya.

If you want nice quiet beaches, go to Koh Phangan. It is the island next to Samui. Phangan is where the Full Moon party is every month, and it is great time. If you are looking for a place to just chill out and relax phangan is a whole lot better then Samui. All places away from the spot where the full moon party is held will be quiet. You will need to rest after a full moon party.
There are daily boats between the islands.
Samui night life is like Soi Cowboy on the beach, and has lots of cheap euro tourist families.
Try both places out, and see which one fits your style

i am looking to book a return flight from bangkok to samui. I have seen someone say that it is a couple of hundred baht cheaper if you buy in samui rather that the internet.But does anybody know if it is cheaper?more convienent to buy in bangkok rather than the internet?

As mentioned earlier in this thread check out http://www.bangkokair.com for web-only internet fairs. There is not really a lot of choice in this matter. Of course, you could always take a bus to save some baht.
