I got a Van when LG + two of her friends and I returned from Pattaya in January. I think it was 1200, but much better for a larger group of people with a good amount of luggage.

You could try:
Tear Service on 2nd Road, Pattaya (07 0577679) who were advertisin' Baht 1000 for Pty-Bkk, at the back-end of 2k4.

I think the OP is asking for the fare from Bkk to Pattaya, not the other way round.
The normal rate would be anything from 1000-1500, depending on what you can negotiate. I once went with 3 mates and a heap of golf clubs, so we needed a bigger car. We got a volvo and he charged us 1600 including tolls.

If you go from Bkk to Ptty using taxi meter the fare is about 900Bt + tolls. However, most Bkk taxi drivers dont want to do this. I think 1200Bt + tolls is a fair deal for all parties if the car is a good one.
Pattaya to Bkk is much cheaper but 800Bt does not guarantee you a roadworthy car.
If you are traveling light why not hop on the bus...it takes a little longer but is pretty good value.
I am sure you can get a bigger vehicle at the airport to take five of you. No idea about the cost but would probably be around 2000Bt. I suspect the saving would not be great.

What I do Is I tell them to put the meter on or I wait for another taxi.
It depends on time you go but it comes to around 700bt to 900bt and then the tolls.
If you pick your time of day you can avoid toll roads and save yourself some extra cash for beer.

Hi Felix,
Re the noon bus to Pattaya. I took this for many years as it connected well with the flite. Also, it was very cheap.
Anyway, arrived a couple of weeks ago and was told at the airport that the bus was finished. I rechecked the information and it seems to be valid.
Ended up paying 1950 for an airport car.
