I do this trip 6 times a year by car and it takes anything between 2 hours 15 mins and 3 hours.The return trip to central Bangkok can take longer on a Friday

If you're travelling light you can take the mini bus from Victory Monument, which is on the skytrain.
140 baht and is really quick....usually no longer than 2.5 hours. Buy a ticket at the small road parallel to the hospital - buses leave from there every half an hour or so. If you've got a big bag simply buy two tickets. Drops off people en route and ends at a small soi off the main road right in downtown Hua Hin.

Taxi's from Hua Hin to BKK airport can be had for 1500-1600 baht - most smaller hotels/guesthouses can organise this price for you.
The top end hotels will charge 2000 baht or more, but you can organise a cheaper price with one of the many local taxi firms.
