I'm heading out to LOS in just over a Week and would love to go to Cambodia if at all possible. I'll only have 2-3 days to spare before I need to be back in Bangkok though, I've heard its a pretty time consuming and grim trip over land. Could anyone give me a rough guide price on a flight this Time of Year or tell me how long it would take by road?

I'm guessing it won't be worth it if I go by road, but you don't know unless you ask.

Thanks.

Be Lucky.

Well you can catch a bus from Bangkok for a tiny amount to get yourself to phoephet on the Cambodian/thai border but if you want to go overland to Phnom Phen I think you will only get robbed 4 or 5o times so going by plain would be cheaper I saw a flight today 7500bt. BKK to Phnom Phen

good luck

Bangkok Chang

Fineday Tours (01 830 0457 or 01 621 7598) run an aircon bus daily from Sukhumvit MRT (opposite Soi Cowoy) at 6.20 am.

Bht 2,000 which includes the visa.

Tell them you're staying in Cambodia for a few days and you'll be able to get the bus back from Poi Pet at 11.00 am on the day of your return.

There are other similar services (Jack Golf being one) but they are all pretty much the same.

Look at the airline websites. Bangkok Air and Thai Air are 2. There's also Cambodia's own airline -Presidential, but you be the judge of $$ versus "other issues". Also Siem Riep Air if you want to go there...

About 7k - 9k baht is the general range. I think I paid $8k baht a month ago. Don't forget your US$25 (20) Visa on entry and your US$20 departure tax....

With your time constraints, I wouldn't even bother thinking about a road trip unless money was a serious issue for you...

If you're going to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat area) I would suggest you take one of the morning flights. That would leave you plenty of time that day to see some of the sights. For the way back to LOS overland travel is not such a bad option: We left Siem Reap at sunrise by taxi (1000 baht to Poipet at the Thai border) arrived there 10am and took the bus to Bangkok (130 baht first class if I remember correctly). Arrived there around 3pm after a four hour trip.
Travelling over land through Cambodia is definitely an experience in itself! For further info check out: "http://www.talesofasia.com/cambodia-overland-bkksr.htm"

For what its worth, if you are going to PP after take the boat down (or up?) the Mekong river. It was an incredible trip, not too long and way better than the roads in Cambodia.

DO NOT, DO NOT, take a tour. They will tell you it will take about 6 or 7 hours. REALITY, It will take 14 to 16 hours on a tour, they will stop for lunch at the border (poi pet) and tell you that they have to get your Cambodia visa. They are really making you stay there for 1 1/2 hours so you eat and they get their "cut" of the bill.

Then you cross the border, board a bus, and guess what, an hour or 2 later you are eating again at another restaurant, this restaurant also gets a piece of the action.

When you arrive at Siem Reap, guess what, they will take you to a guest house of their choice and expect you to stay there, once again, the tour company gets a cut in all the action they bring the guest house.

Take a bus from Ekkamai to Poi-pet (about 100 Baht) cross the border all by yourself, (1000 Baht visa fee) walk about 1/2 KM and you will have a ton of offers to take you to Siem Reap, take the CAMRY option, it will cost you 30 USD, including the driver but it is FAST, AIR CON, and they will not stop to feed you along the way unless you request it. Total time, about 8 hours from Bangkok to Siem Reap.

(last trip my driver pulled over, opened his door, squatted, dumped, pulled up his pants without wiping, got back in the car, laughed a few times and continued on the way, the dump stop only delayed us 2 mins, he was quick)
