Just read Thai immigration now taking photos of people on arrival,so they can match up with your passport when you leave is this true?

What is this all about then? What happens if you leave the country by a different point to the one you entered it? What happens if you grow a beard while you are in the country? Is this just an example of poorly thought out policy?

Also, my passport is 8 years old. A person's appearance can change a fair amount in that time I think.

I think that the Thai Authorities must have been shopping at Pantip, as thay have more then one camera?
FYI. They take photographs at most, if not all exit and entry border points for Thailand. If they do not right now, they soon will.
In fact if you care to take a look around you will see that there are covert cameras everywhere in all Airports worldwide. So it's nothing new..
According to CNN, there are 500,000 Video cameras in London alone. Operated by both UK government security services, police, and also private video image capture companies...
But according to your logic then SW all passports for Men are unnecessary as the Men may grow a beard. 
They don't care what you look like 8-10 years ago  it's today they are interested in. 
Why do you think it's a "poorly thought out policy" ?
Think again... Just imagine if the authorities had to look for a person based upon an old passport photograph alone which may or may not be false. They have a better chance to aprehend someone if they have a recent phorotgraph...
Common sense really.

What immigration do or not do is always up to the present officer. Almost after they make a rule they inforce it unitill one off the officers drop the cam and its broken and no one cares to buy a new one. How many of the rules they have do they actullty force on to you if you not making to much noice. Maybe it has to do with the new computer system they have maybe they want you photo in there. I am sure USA and EU is pushing them as well to do something beucase Thailand is the base of a network for making passports.

Just entered Thailand last Fri night. Was in the "Foreign passport" line - 3 men in front of me were Asian. I would have thought they were Thai by looking at them - but they were not. Perhaps Lao, Burmese, Vietnamese, or Khmer?
Anyway, all 3 had their photo taken. I observed as the Imm officer told them to back up and stand on the line on the floor. I went up (I am caucasian American) and was processed the same as every other time coming into Thailand (i.e. no photo). I intentional stood close to the counter and alittle to the side just to see if the Imm officer would tell me to back up & stand on the line so my pic could be taken. It was not. Just FYI

Most certainly Mr. Tyfon, it seems however on three conditions: one should be rather sexy, beautiful on the inside, have no objection to such.
E.g. old fart expatchunk obviously meets the first and third condition. That is most unfortunate for him in view of both his exhibitionist desire to be photographed by the uniformed and his masochistic desire to have his rights as a suspect buggered by them.
