Got some comments on my recent flight from USA /Taipei / Bangkok and hope to get your feedback. Fllight over was OK, but coming back, upon boarding in Bangkok, found there someone in my assigned aisle seat. Not wanting an issue with the passenger, I asked the flight attendant to check her ticket. Reply was "so sorry sir but lady has young son and wants to be near him on the aisle, do you mind if she take your seat? "Yes, I do" was my response, and before I could finish she said "good, there is no problem then". "uh, yes, there is a problem I made my reservations 6 months ago, and my aisle seat reservations 3 months ago, and I do prefer an aisle seat. Perhaps, you can find other accomodations for me in deluxe, business or first class, for my inconvenience"? "So sorry sir, plane is full", as she leads me towards my middle seat. The plane was full by the way. Everybody is staring at me now so I allow myself to be led to my middle seat. A most uncomfortable seat since I am broad-shouldered and like the little extra room (and convenience) an aisle seat affords. Now that said, the flight attendants were really nice, and very professional, as I think they were probably doing what needed to be done, but at my expense. They came back to my seat often during the flight with dinner from first class, wine from first class, Hagen Daus (Sp) ice cream, a bottle of wine at the end of the trip, and the clincher about 6 hours into the flight they said I could have their section, where the flight attendants recline and relax. I refused because at that point I had settled into my new seat and made friends with both people on either side of me, BUT I must say that all sorts of devilish thoughts went thru my mind then and even now, as I wondered if any extras might come with that bunk. While I was waiting for my bags, 2 flight attendants came up and gave me a hug and wished me well, as they passed by with thier bags, and all had a nice smile for me. Oh well, I will never know but the fantasy of it will have to do. Bottom line is those flight attendants sure as hell were better to be around the any of the flight attendants on NW Airlines, who tended to be older and much bitchier, if that is a word. First time flying with EVA, but will probably do so again.

Have flown Evergreen DeLuxe LHR/BKK for over 10 years but this seat switching can be a problem. Happened twice recently, last time in March 2005 and how I sympathize over being centre of attraction! I had a decent result both times seatwise: 1st time upgraded to Business & 2nd time moved just a few seats along to another aisle position, unfortunately next to a UK football follower (and that's being polite). I don't think the Taiwanese staff really grasp what's said in English. Nevertheless the girls obviously felt for you & were generous in trying to compensate. Had the offer of joining them in their space been accepted who knows what comforts you may have enjoyed! They are, however, from a more prudish society and may not prove as accommodating/loose (along with haggard, rude & old) as aircrew from some other countries. EVA is a good airline, but the best reason to travel with them is Evergreen DeLuxe. The Business Class seat at a generally budget price, in an albeit economy setting, beats being in zoo class anyday.

Artisan, Thanks for your input, but since you are a regular user of EVA, here are couple more questions. On their website they advertised the folling approximate rates, for RT west coast USA to Bangkok: $690 for economy, $850 for Deluxe, $2,850 for Business, and $5,800 for Super First. Do you think Business is that much better than Deluxe? And if I understand your first post, you would choose Deluxe over economy?

I find EVA Deluxe a good value. I have not flown EVA Business but have flown EVA First Class (upgraded) and found it equivalent to Cathay Pacific business class.

What's the difference between the "old" Evergreen Delux, and the "new" Elite on the LHR - BKK route? Anyone experienced both and could compare the space you get, in particular the seat width and size of arm rest inbetween you and your nieghbour? Ta

Business is spartan, located upstairs, is very quiet & seats are in pairs. Not worth a premium though. In fact, most people in Business Class have upgrades thru having accumulated points via the EVA loyalty card scheme. Worth subscribing as it's free but points tend to expire after 24 months, usually just before you've acquired enough! Evergreen DeLuxe on the 747's is significantly superior to economy. It's a Business Class seat physically, in a cordoned-off section of economy in the nose of the plane. There are separate toilets from economy and better courtesy comforts are laid on in the way of slippers, toiletries, food & drink compared to the back cabin. The flights to BKK can be tedious and at least there's something to look forward to, so to speak, in selecting DeLuxe. Well worth the not too serious price difference over the cheap seat. The carrier has 2 new 777 aircraft (never seen one) which has Elite class in place of DeLuxe. Hope this helps.

...I agree with Artisan's comments about EVA Business Class. I did accumulate enough points to upgrade to Business Class. NOT worth it. Seat is nicer than Deluxe class, but not that much nicer. Food is somewhat better, but not that much better. ...A better use of loyalty points is wait until you have enough to get a free flight. .

Hi Imitebee I flew eva elite in November, when I booked flight in October I think it was booked as de luxe, as far as I can see they are both the same thing, just a re branding, I suppose being elite is better than being de luxe.

I must disagree. The aisles are narrower in Elite than the the old Evergreen de luxe. There is no standing room at the back of elite. Other than standing in front of exit rows the only place with standing room is at the back of the aircraft. The seat pitch seems the same but window seats in particular have these boxes in front at the side which connect to the in flight entertainment system.
