this isnt about texas...but my first trip to thailand I flew from atlanta on deltas partner air france.
they overbooked and went around saying they needed 6 volunteers to be bumped to a later flight with an overnight layover in Paris...compensation was $600 rebate (original ticket was $815) and hotel voucher at a hotel in Paris...
my 2 friends and I jumped all over it and in the end paid $215 for our flight to thailand and partied in paris for a night.......I remember flying to BKK the next day thinking shit even with the free hotel I spent almost $250 of the rebate.................mai pen lai, it was a memorable way to start our 3 week vacation.

Couldn't find the appropriate thread so had to hijack this one. Sorry.
My Thai wife and I will be travelling to Houston next week for a long overdue holiday and honeymoon and perhaps try for a kid too. We intend to stay there for perhaps 3 months and will probably move around Texas. Problem is our air tickets show a departure date 5 days from our arrival. Seems that was the only date frame available from my regular agent. We plan to purchase a return ticket online halfway through our stay.
Should we expect any flak from the Immigration guys at Houston? I hold a Singapore passport and so am under the Visa Waiver Program; would that help somewhat? Would the Immigration guys give my wife a 3 month stay based on her marriage to me? Any documents I should bring to show we have motivation to return home at the end of our stay?
Appreciate the help mates.

I won't even attempt to answer your other questions, other than to say if a return ticket is required by US Immigration, it is possible the airline won't even let you board the plane in Singapore.
The airlines are responsible for your onward or return travel it they bring you in without the proper documentation.
Try the airlines for an answer. They may know.

I agree with EPC,
US Immigration Agents have become very arbitrary and if you draw the wrong one you can find yourself in a small windowless room awaiting a flight to Gitmo  .
Seriously, the US Consular Service in Singapore are very efficient and will have you all lined up in no time.
Get there early though because unless you are a
US Citizen there is a long queue of people wanting visas to fight through...
