Looking to plan a trip in February, along with a couple of friends (bloody newbies - so it'll be fun!). We want to start them off by heading to Koh Chang, which should be nice that time of year, and since we're technically close to Cambodia, we thought of taking a trip to Siem Reap/Angkor Wat, and then taking a flight out of Siem reap back to Bangkok. Sounds good, in theory - but I was wondering what's the best way to travel from Trat to Siem Reap (short of renting the 8 hour minibus from the border). There's no direct airline connection, and it seems bus or rental car/minibus are the bext options - first to Cambo border, then switch to a Cambo transport, and 6-8 hours to Siem Reap. The only alternative I can think off, at a higher cost, would be flying back to Bangkok, and switching to a local carrier to Siem Reap. Doing it that way we may be able to do the whole trip in 3 hours or so, if we manage the connecting flights well. Thus, so far, we have: BKK --> Trat (Koh Chang) --> Siem Reap --> Bangkok At one point, we also want to include 2 days in Pattaya with all of that - not sure if we should that at the beginning (i.e. BKK --> Pattaya --> Trat --> etc...), or save to for after we return? Has anyone made that kind of trip before, or have any suggestions on a fun way of achieving our objectives?

Did the 160 baht 6AM bus from Pattaya to Krat (6-7 hour bus ride/return trip took 8-9 hours as it was mid day traffic), 100 baht van from bus stop to border, 20.00 U.S. Immigration fee, 100 baht to Otto's, 100.00 U.S. (split 2 ways) for taxi ride to PP (same cost on return trip). Only out of the box expense was the 100.00 taxi ride to PP, but split 2 ways it was 50.00 and the ride was 6 hours long with 3 or 4 river crossings. This was 1 year ago and there was a lot of construction on the roads, so might be a shorter ride to PP from the border. Note: Price are from 1 year ago, so cost may have risen.

Daffy have a look here,,, http://www.canbypublications.com/cambodia/overland.htm My personal choice would be Ferry from Koh Kong to Sihanoukville and then bus or taxi to Phnom Pehn. From PP to SR think twice about the boat/ferry as there is little to nil protection from the sun and I've seen the results on a European lady. Taxis at the main market area in PP go at around US40-50 for a 4hr aircon comfortable ride or the bus about 6 hr but a lot cheaper. Mel.

I like Mel's idea, which I've done. Trat --- Koh Kong --- Sihanoukville --- PP ---- Siem Reap ---out at Aran. Triangle of cheap beautiful Khmer and Viet pussy. Gee, is that all I ever think about? The boat I had from PP to SR had a roof, so out of the sun, but still hot and humid and very crowded. Took about, what was it, 4hrs or so? The taxi sounds nice.
