I stay in BKK a lot but like the beach now and then. Ptty is nowadays out of the question. I know good places down south so that is no problem. But when not want to travel too far and maybe just stay away near the water for 3-4 days? Surely there must be something closer to BKK and the name BANGSAN came up when I snooped around a bit.
Too be honest: never heard the name before, havent got a clue where it is located or if it is a hit or a miss. No info here either.
So any of the travelling band out there who might know a bit about this location and willing to share? Perhaps a tip on where to accomodate as well?

Saen, as in RAN or MAN
Bang is a long sound, not like rang or bang, but more like Ahng

Yep - I realise I must have misspelled it.... when did a search on the other spellings found a lot more. Seems the beach is not something to dream for. Too bad. It would really have been nice to find some place close to BKK to just short visit. But perhaps not too bad to visit Tide resort for 2-4 nights. Might do that next month.

Hua Hin is your best bet...
Nice and quiet with just enough night life to get a buzz on... And some very nice hotels and restaurants and also some nice beaches in the area...
IMHO it is far superior to Jomtien. Especially if you take your own entertainment...
Talking about buzzes (sp) depending upon the time of day it should only take 3.5 hours max on a Mini Van they are quite comfortable and cost around 250 THB one way.
They leave every 30 minutes from Victory Monument Exit 2 from the BTS station.
Or you can get a taxi for around 2,000 THB

Bang Saen, Satthahip and Sri Racha are primarily weekend holiday destinations.
You'll see few foreigners there. Prices for day to day needs are a little higher in Bang Saen than in the larger cities.
Few nightlife establishments... again Thai style. But recommended if you like fish... the aquarium at the University is nice.

TPE - thanks! Yes I am sure youŽd love to see me get into one of those crammed minibuses.... wont happen! 5555!
Hua Hin is of course a great bet - but I just had this idea that you could step away from the b....y computer work for a couple of days and within the hour or so go to a beachresort. Bang Saen is an option but if water looks the same as the toilet at home.... not much to long for. And as I said earlier years Ptty was a good option for both some fun and rent a boat a "go island".
Maybe one day in very low season I will set my foot there again - but not now. So many other places never visited!

I really only have 9 days in LOS on my next trip...
mother-in-laws bday in nakon sawan will take up a solid 4 days...I will be sure to have fun up there as well 
I plan on jumping in a taxi and hitting ko samed for 2 or 3 days...I am with you no trip is complete without a nice bungalow on a beach and I am not a pattaya guy (nothing against it..just not my speed)
Its a 3 hour taxi ride for about 60 bucks (well considering the dollar.. maybe a bit more) I hate the minibus as well..
if you have never been its pretty chill and worth a "gander!"
