I just spent the last two days playing on the internet to work out a good LAX-BKK airfare, for the early part of October. I'm leaving after work on a Friday and taking the redeye so kep that in mind:

My current favorite airline, EVA, lowest fare that works for me was $1203! Earlier this year my EVA ticket was $878.

I went over to China Airlines and found the lowest fare of the search $1025.80. The problem with China however is that your seat is assigned at check-in. That doesn't work for me as I really need to sit on the aisle due to a prostate condition.

I checked out Thai, this is nice as its a non-stop flight, but then its 17 hours also. The lowest fare I managed to conjure up there was $1297, but 17 hours in the air.

Then I went over to Cathay Pacific. I will give this airline credit as they do have the best web-site that is easy to search for the lowest flight combo fares. The lowest fare I was able to get from them was $1118. After doing a bit of playing I ended up with a fare of $1133, and what I really like about it is that I'll leave BKK on a Monday afternoon land in Hong Kong and then have a layover of 36 hours, giving me time to go into the city and bang some 141 girls, So thats the fare that I too, $1133 r/t.

I looked a little bit at fares a couple of weeks ago and they were (at least I think they were) over $150 cheaper. Then I remember four years ago and the $580 China Airlines tickets.

By the way Cathay is nice also in that 60K FF miles gets you a r/t from LAX to HKG. Much better than the 100K on China.

a) show up 4 hours before check-in, as you are supposed to do, and you get to pretty much pick your seat.

Or, be smart, and set yourself up with their Dynasty FLyer program, and book your e-Ticket online, where you get to immediately pick your seats yourself.

Odd, I'm on the China-Airlines website just now myself, and the prices I am getting over Halloween period, are $878 for the r/t flight ($924 for weekend flight)

You are right, though - 4-5 years ago, during the SARS scare, my flights were an average of $560-$650 r/t.

Still, book early, get better prices.

dudes...from Hawaii to Las Vegas on Hawaiian air is about $850-925.....from HNL to Narita "sale price" $750. from HNL to BKK depending on airline, $950. (5-7 years ago,$600).
from Hawaii to vacation spot? Las Vegas or BKK? i'd choose BKK! Hawaiian air can go F%ck themselves for all their price gouging!
BASTARDS!
soon i'll have to dust off my X-wing fighter for next trip!

I booked RT lax-bkk for 999 yesterday; that is for Nov 2008. I was hoping for lack of demand to lead to some price discounts down the road, especially as I feel oil has peaked in the short-term. But, when I saw airlines reducing the amount of flights, I went ahead and locked in. This really is a 50% off fare, as the miles from this flight put me into the range of a free RT ticket lax-bkk on my next trip. Save those miles, guys. They count for something.
