Hi Guys, I am planning to travel to LOS in June. I'll spend a few nights in BKK and then hit the village with the wife and kid for the required number of days... Once I escape the annual village run I want to head to the beach. I've been to Thailand quite a bit but have never been to Koh Chang. I've heard mixed reviews but wanted do get a more detailed view from the gang here on BKK tonight. I've been to Phuket and Samui a ton and dove off of Krabi and Koh Phi Phi. Anyway can folks let me know what the night life (bar scene) and diving are like on Koh Chang? What do reasonable accomodations cost on Koh Chang on or very near the beach? For reference: I usually stay at places like the Town Lodge or Grottino when I'm in BKK, or the Tropica Bungalows in Phuket. Nothing too fancy but nice. Thanks in advance.

Torq: If it's all about the diving head up to Khao Lak and the Similans. The water's much clearer in the Andaman. Otherwise I prefer KC. It' looks like Samui, but bigger, cleaner, and prettier. Rent a bike and go around the island. I coudn't tell if you are binging the wife. If you want action, stay in White Sands Bch. There's a couple bars down by the 7-11 and a Beer-Bar complex over the hill in Klong Prao. Decent talent. The beach is better at the N end, the S gets rocky. I like White Sands Bch Resort, all the way at the N end. If you're bringing your own, you can find cheaper bungalows in Kai Bae and Lonely Bch. Check out http://www.iamkohchang (everything you need to know). I don't know if I would book ahead if I were you. It could be raining like crazy in June. Check the weather reports when you'r up N. It could be raining in KC and nice in Krabi or visa-versa. wj

Thanks bros Stick the weather and hotel pics are great. Looking at the rainfall for June makes me think Krabi might be a better bet. I could just breakdown and do Samui, Phuketor Pattaya again. Of I've never done Hua Hin...or further East on the coast. Anybody done Krabi recently?

Torq: I like to use up starpoints and stay at the Sheraton, about 4 miles up the coast, (on a sweet beach), from Ao Nang. There nice cheaper options next door. There names escape me. In Ao Nang I like the Ao Nang Villa at the E end of the beach under the cliffs. 1st class rooms, beautiful grounds, and the biggest pool you've ever seen. I paid about $50 a couple years ago. Ao Nang has nice shops, pubs, seafood, and a smattering of beer bars at the E end of the main drag where it turns L. The beach looks nice, but sucks. A half mile out it's still 2 ft deep. You can take longtails over to a great beach (Railay) and some idyllic islands. There's a lot of jellyfish everywhere, but they're little and not real painful. If you want a more hippie vibe go stay at Railay. It's the backpacker, wall climber, ganja, rasta, red bull crowd, but the beach is #1. Due to the ganja I can't remember where I stayed. Krabi Town is worth a visit. There's some good bars and seafood on the river. Krabi Nat Park is fabulous too, especially if its raining, since there's a shitload of big waterfalls out there. If I were you, I'd grab a ferry in Ao Nang or Krabi Town to Phuket Town through Koh Phi Phi. You can stop for a couple hours and grab the next one. It's a real nice ride. Like I said before the diving is better on the Andaman and Kao Lak is cool. See ya, I'm tapped. wj
