I know this topic is done to death, so apologies for bringing it up again.
Does anyone know of a cheap flight to BKK (from New York) that I can get with very little notice? Most have 7 day advance for the cheap prices...

YOu only real hope for this is to go to a bucket shop or use something like priceline dot com .. the discount travel agent I use is in SF, but if in the NY area, check out the local Chinese papers and look for travel deals..
I assume you want it for "now" which makes it tougher .. during some times of the year there are more empty seats and it can be easier..
On my last trip, the NW flights from the USA to Narita were not too full, problem was getting from Narita to Bkk...you might run into this as a problem..
One thing I did once was to fly to Singapore and then get a flight from there... another time when I had a longer trip, I flew to Sg and then took the train to Hadyai (stayed two days) and then continued to Bkk.. flew back to Sg...
One note, if you have a layover of one night or partial, they have a short time hotel in the airport that was nice .. not taxi downtown and it was cheaper for eight hours than the cheaper hotels in the city.
Good luck, you probably will need it..
