It is a really good way to travel if you have no responsibilityies (kind of like me) and can go in a minutes notice. Most of the time you cannot bring any luggage except for a carry on, there are quite a few restrictions but it is worth it.

And, courier travel is often round-trip, i.e., they want you to come back with a pouch in, say, a week, or 10 days.
While the airfare is fairly low, it is NOT free, as far as I've seen...more like $250-400.
As, ccvvbb said, there are other restrictions, too.

I had a friend who used them a few years ago. He was happy, as he could go a couple of times a year to London to see his friends. I seem to remember him telling me that the majority of the flights they need couriers for are from LAX, SFO and JFK.
It might be worth looking into, it would be great if we could find someone who is currently a member.

I've flown courier before and it's not too bad. You have to get to the airport a little earlier to pick up a manifest to hand over to a courier agent upon landing.
I used another courier service:

To fly to Bangkok on this courier company, the only option is out of Los Angeles. It normally runs anywhere from $0 - $450. It is only free or really cheap when they have a cancellation by someone or never found anyone to fly the day of.
You can arrange your return with them as long as the date is open. If you have a long layover like in Japan, they put you up in a hotel as part of the package.
I flew Japan Air thru them. The only bad thing is once you've set your schedule, you pretty much have to stick with it.

No courier flights to Bangkok from Minnesota that I'm aware of. You would have to fly to the city of departure to do this, and it probably wouldn't be worth the savings to do so.

Unfortunately, "free" service is only available on a last minute notice; e.g. we need someone for tomorrow, are you available?
Back in the day, these services would fly you for free and pay for your hotel accomodations; however, those days are long gone because too many people "talk too much" and now there is more supply than demand.
I was recently quoted a price of $800 RT from NYC's JFK to BKK on Dec. 28th... a $300 jump from last year!
Any further updates about these services from other members are appreciated.

Great question. The only response I can give to you is, "sometimes." It depends on the agency and the airline so it becomes more complex--two variables.
As a courier for Jupiter, flying JAL, I do not get frequent flyer miles; JAL's decision.
The response that I recieved after my previous post was that "it is the busy season" but she (my courier connect) would see what she could do for me; however, she is not responsible for making the prices. I'll keep ya posted...
