I can not speak about that leg but in 2002 took a return trip from New York and it was fine and the price was very good.

I topok an Air China from AMS to BKK and found it to be a bog stnd econmy flight - nothing special - nothing wrong.  I know they have a bad safety record, but even aeroflot are safer than walking as a pedestrian in any major city - so why make a big deal.

If it is cheaper than others from AMS I would say fire ahead, if EVA come in at the same/similar price I would recommend them.

I keep getting confused between

China Airlines & Air China

I took the China Airlines flight from BKK to LOS earlier this year.  It was fine.  Nothing special - and nothing bad.  (except for something mechanical & scarey on the return trip, but that coulda happened with any airline)

I do have one tip that might help a lot if you are travelling economy class...

The day before departure, call the China Airlines desk at Schiphol airport, and request an exit row seat.  Check in nice and early on the day of departure and reconfirm that you do infact have an exit row seat.
At the check-in desk, ask the employee to do the same for you for your return flight.

On our outward flight we had exit-row economy seats which were great.  Even my 6 foot 5 s.o could have his legs fully stretched.  On the return flight the exit row seats were taken but they gave us seats in the business class "buffer zone" with business class seats and economy class meals -- which was brilliant.  I could lie flat out like in bed.

(buffer zone = the last few rows of business class before you come to economy).

Definitely call in advance and ask nicely for exit row seats!  It's the diference between sitting fairly comfortable in economy and sitting with your knees against your chin.

If you need their telephone number in Amsterdam, let me know.

BTW -- this applies to China Airlines and NOT Air China.

Flew several times with China Airlines from AMS to BKK. Nothing wrong about their flights and service..
Crew was friendly and helpfull.. China Airlines is popular by many tour-agencies (round-tours, package tours) so expects the economy class will often be fully booked.

Another recommended company will be Eva Airways.
BTW: both are from Taiwan

I fly China Airlines every time I go to LOS. Good connections with the smaller local airports from the u.k.
to amsterdam.
They have changed the class formatts now, so first class is now business and the business is now called upperdeck- bigger seats but economy service.
Standard rate econ. from the u.k. £465 can be upgraded to upperdeck for £300 return.
If your flying a lot then sign up for the frequent flyers program- you get 11,000 air miles for each round trip and since they re-classed the seating you only need 15,000 miles for an upgrade. This means that the airmiles are roughly worth £100 every roundtrip.

There is a ticket agency in Newcastle called freedom flights that are preferred agents for china airlines and can pretty much get you on any flight even in the busy times.
