I was just wondering what I would do if I ever caught anything from playing around in LOS. If I had caught an STD, I would need to tell my wife something (pragmatically and legally), and I know that she would need to get checked too.
Are there any clever facts about the more common STDs that might give me an excuse other than the truth? Can you catch any of the STDs in any way other than sex? Toilet seats? What about old premarital cases recurring?

Depends if your wife is as daft as you sound.
An STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) being transmitted other than sexually? Good Luck.
An acquiantance convinced his wife that he had got it by falling down in a shower and there must have been something on the floor. Mind you he was German and she was Thai, so that's not a good precedent.
My two early-teenage daughters know you can't get an STD other than through some form of sex.
So WTF are you on about?

Sounds like you're setting yourself up for failure. Here's an idea --- focus your efforts on prevention rather than cooking up asinine damage control excuses. Ever heard of a condom?

Actually, is it possible to get chlamydia from other than sex, e.g., from those dirty towels over the sink in gogo bars. I read an interesting excerpt from a medical journal about the lifecycle of this disease. It behaves more like a virus during the tranmission stage, e.g., has a very small form that can lie in wait on things like wet towels, etc. This is the thing that climbs down your unit during sex, attacks the cells in the urinay tract, develops fully, and then explodes the host cell (killing it), thereby releasing more of the little time bombs. It's this reproductive mode that can cause pemament scars and damage, as it's actually destroying the cells it infests.
So how does it get from the towel to your unit? It's possible to "auto infect" yourself by rubbing your eyes, which will cause an infection in them. Then if you do the j-stroke, it can be transmitted to your johnson. Based on the report I read, the eye infection can be "self-limiting," but if you spread it to your johnson, it's possible to pass it back and forth between you eyes and your johnson ad infinitum. Hence the use of anti-biotics to stop it.
I suppose this is where the saying, "you'll go blind if you touch that thing!" comes from, lol! Anyway, this is a theoretical possibility, and probably happens on a statistically low basis. But hell, I ain't touching those towels. Amusinginly, I was in in a gogo on Soi Cowboy, and was about to reach for one of those putrid towels to dry my hands (against my better judgement), when the lady behind me suggested that it was dirty and not to bother. She had a very thai lady look of revulsion on her face, so I took her advice, lol!
But the advice given in this thread is correct: concentrate on prevention. I'm not gonna moralize beyond that (pot callin' the kettle "black")...

Probably a bit late to say this, but it's highly recommended to NOT have a wife in the first place.
I know, thats rich coming from yours truly who is in a constant state of financial recovery following the big "D". I call the ex, "the house keeper" coz she kept the f*cking house..! Ha.!
But true.. STD's are kinda difficult to explain away I guess. Not personally had to go through that particular scenario - (yet) !.

If you catch something in Thailand go to the doc and get it treated.
Get the doc to write up some bogus thing that you are too ill with some non STD thing to travel and will have to delay your return home until you can fly.
Then stay in Thailand until it has cleared up and fly home telling her the terrible story about how you couldn't get out of bed for two weeks you were so sick
