Hi, I am making enquiries about obtaining presciption drugs for my next visit to the LOS. I regularly take Temazepam to aid sleep and Tylex for pain, and since my last visit I have been diagnosed as Diabetic for which I take Metformin. On my last visit it was impossible to by these drugs in Pattaya however I found a small drug store in Patpong that would sell me Diazepam and Tynonlol - a slightly infereior pain killer. I am expecting my stay to be several weeks, am I best bring enough with me or is it possible to get these drug from anywhere. If I bring supplies with me for a few weeks would the quantity be questioned as I know the Thai's have very strict rule on drugs and I don't want to get into any trouble. Many thanks Pat

don#t think so when you can show them that you bought them on a prescription. i have never been asked on any tablets i brought into the country, even when tehy checked my entire luggage twice! but usually you will get the drugs in many bangkok pharma's without any prescription anyway. as you already realised esp. the area around patpong and sukhumvit is notorious for selling without prescript's. jsut make sure you know what you want!

The perception that "Thai's have very strict rule on drugs" is not entirely accurate -- this isn't Malaysia or Singapore -- and it doesn't apply to "legal" drugs sold in pharmacies. In fact, most pharmacies don't care about prescriptions, nor do the police worry about most pharmaceuticals. They stopped the recreational drugs from being sold in pharmacies a while ago (ketamine and metaamphetamines were available up to a few years ago) and now they are not likely to worry about any over the counter sales.

Years ago I was just recovering from pneumonia (sp?) when I went to LOS. I had codine on prescription with me in my luggage and was a bit worried cause they are highly addcitive and misused... so I made a photo-copy of the prescription before I filed it and kept it in the pill container just incase. But no one batted an eyelid or even asked me about medicines.

Any prescription drug is available at the Pharmacy in Sukumvit Rd near the Service Station just a little bit up from Soi 4 (Nana) towards Soi 2. Cost is a little dear but sometimes saves a fair amount of trouble. Hope this is of some use!

Indeed have never had a problem getting prescription drugs from the pharmacies on Sukhumvit. You do not need a specific address, you do however need the specific name of whatever drug you need. Also be sure to have the generic pharmacutical name for said drug. If in doubt do as X suggests and bring a photo copy of your prescription.
