Need some info on corrective eyewear please. Can't decide if my next purchase will be contact lenses or glasses, probably contacts. Any recommendations in or near Sukhumvit? English-speaking and non-f_ck-farang pricing, please. Funny that the search engine came up with next to nothing on this one.

I always buy my contacts in Pattaya, they are not a lot cheaper than back here in Canada but it is nice to be able to buy them right off of the shelf. I did find that they were also higher in Bangkok than Pattaya.

If I remember correctly it was B600-B650 (maximum) for Accuvue daily wear. I had to buy 4 boxes to get that price though. I think the price on the box is B900 I always buy them from İthe same optical store. It is on one of the soi's near the post office on your left (as you walk away from the beach) There are a couple of hot looking eye doctors there, I have never tried picking one up but they are very friendly.

Go to MBK, second or third floor. Several shops, most of which can also test your eyes. CONTACTS: I went to MBK looking for a TG for the night, but ended up chasing a pair of extra stong prescription contact lenses - my eyes are poor - minus 7 to 8. Price was quoted at 4500 Baht (Pr) & a 3 day wait for German made contact lenses, which I already had (but forgot to pack - to vain to go out at night with specs). They are a bit bigger than normal (easier to get out when your pissed)and very soft. Can wear for up to 12-16 hours. Meanwhile (after testing my eyes for free) he said, try these standard ones (off the shelf) only 2000Baht a pair. No problems, up to 18-18 vision so I can see what I am f_cking. I'll take these while I wait. Good value at under USD50 SPECS: Next a pair of specs. Picked the Emporio Armani frames, very light, with German super thin glass lenses(very light) for my 12-13 vision. Took 2 days and cost 4200Baht for the lot. Think it was on the second level, small single frontage shop, with a little room at the rear with eye testing equipment.

VJ, my missus always uses one on Silom, I know thats not Sukhumvit, but they seem to be pretty good and reliable. They are under the saladang skytrain station on the side of the road opposite patpong.

Last night I dug through some old stuff at the bottom of a packing carton and found my old B&L contact lenses. After two years they were still in the same condition as when I put them to bed. Quality solution and an air-tight case work wonders. Right eye off by maybe .25 or .50 and would give me a headache eventually. Left eye perfect but the lens has just a bit of damage on the rim and gets irritationg after a few minutes. No point to this post really except to note how one eye can change and the other stay the same. Unfortunately, I didn't save the original little vials so no telling what the prescription is. Wonder if they can just take a reading off my current eyeglasses which are spot-on but tacky. Eye exams with numbers and shapes offend my Lutheran sensibilities, give me the "E" chart any day. Thanks to everybody who took the time to post intelligently. Might try to get out tommorow and score a new pair of contacts. I just remembered that a lot of Tesco-Lotus stores have an optical shop inside, but quality of English might be a challenge in some locations.

Sukhumvit will get you 'farang pricing'. İOptical shop heaven is right off the Ratchathewi BTS stop on the east side of the street from the BTS steps, north, all the way around the corner toward Pantip. İMany shops in the area, some English capable, all reasonably priced. About 18 months ago, I bought progressive bifocals, all the trick UV/scratch coatings, frames and lenses for under US$100 - same thing would have cost me $450 here in the US. İThe woman I saw had her contact lense training certificate prominently posted...her's was the shop closest to the BTS steps. No signs prohibiting gays or cocksuckers (not that this applies) Hope this helps. haam sup
