Shredded Wheat

Yes - Mrs Shreddie was treated for cervical cancer 7 years ago. It was caught at stage II. She was treated at Chonburi Cancer Centre. Her treatment was the radioactive rod treatment that Ballsburstin describes. She also had her tubes tied. Since then my wife has had regular checks at UK hospitals and always appeared to be cancer free. The checks always came up clear. Despite those checks Mrs Shreddie started to say she felt sure the cancer had returned (about the middle of last year) - her body just felt different and she was getting tired quickly in the same way she did when she had the cancer. The doctors here believed the evidence of their tests. Towards the end of last year a lump appeared in her neck. She had a CAT scan of her whole body and that came up clear - apart from showing a lump in her neck. The lump (a swollen lymph gland) was removed from her neck and sent for tests. The biopsy showed the presence of cancerous cells of the same type as were present when she had cervical cancer 7 years ago. Mrs Shreddie was sent for another type of scan - a PET scan. That revealed microscopic traces of cancer cells in a lymph gland in her groin. But no other signs of cancer. Her blood tests are normal but the specialists believe the cervical cancer has now reached Stage IV and is present in her blood and/or lymph systems and it is now just a matter of time. The prognosis is not good. There is no cure when it gets to this stage. At this stage there are only treatments (chemo) for slowing down the spread of the disease. Mrs Shredddie has very painful memories of her treatment for the original cancer and has decided she does not want to go through any further hospital treatment. I support her fully in that brave and difficult decision. She has taken a Thai Buddhist fatalistic approach. She wonders what bad things she has done in a previous life to deserve this and nothing I can tell her will change that way of thinking. She wants to die in Thailand. Mrs Shreddie is currently in Thailand building her house on her land - fullfilling her life's ambition. She should live to see it completed and with luck we may get a few precious years together after that. I am glad that I have been able to make that dream come true for her. I have just returned from spending a month with my wife in LOS. I am still working in the UK to pay the bills, but looking carefully at our finances and the Thai visa position. I am too young for a retirement visa. My UK flat may be on the market later this year once the house in Thailand has been built.

Shredded, mate what can I say,,, sad sad news. My best wishes and my prayers are with you and the Mrs. It's excellent that she gets the chance to build the house she dreamed of, great !!! You talk about not being able to get a retirement visa ?, I am sure that some sort of visa opportunity is one place the members of BKTF can help out. Come on guys,, surely someone has a company with a spare Farang visa ??? Put Shredded on the books as an advisor. Best wishes Mel ( aka Dave)

Shredded, That's a huge load to bear, and I only hope you get as much time together as possible before things start to go downhill. I've been off the forum for the last month, was just talking to my TGF (now Thai fiancee) via video Skype, and it reminded me to check back in on the forum. Your's was the first post I read, and it stopped me in my tracks. Perhaps the only silver lining in this cloud is that you met your wife and have been able to spend the years together that you've had so far. The time you have left together is even more precious. Be sure to live it, as I'm sure you will. Good luck to you both, I'm hoping she gets to see the house completed and to enjoy it a bit. - Balls

Those we meet and love enrich our lives. These we are fortunate to know and to have known as we move through each other's lives. I am sorry to hear of your pain and burden, Shredded Wheat. Though I am sure you still have much you and the Mrs will and can contribute to each other and to appreciate. Please accept my sympathy and encouragement in these tough times.
