The only problem I have with this is that bar owners should have the choice. If they want to let their customers smoke then they should be allowed to. Non-smokers can go elsewhere & vice versa. They can also apply this to staff. If you are not happy serving in a bar that allows its customers to smoke then go and work elsewhere. In all probability, this choice would only be exercised by the smaller bar owner who has a number of regulars who smoke - I think the bigger bars will benefit from the no-smoking policy anyway.

Which is exactly the situation at the moment.

how does the ban work in gogo bars.. where you would have a bin running... surely they won't let you nip out for a fag in fear of you doing a runner..

Non-smokers can go elsewhere & vice versa. =================================== It would be logical that all bar owners would choose to allow their customers to smoke. So where do the non-smokers go? What choice do they have? Government intervention is what needed here.

We just don't go there... Or we smoke cigars or something foul-smelling to chase away the damn cigarette smokers.

It would be logical that all bar owners would choose to allow their customers to smoke. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe, but I reckon there is a market for non-smoking bars. I am sure that if The Dubliner or The Londoner became non-smoking bars they may see a short term fall in custom but a long term gain. If the law at present is as Broken Leg says then maybe the bars should have big signs telling their potential customers whether it is or is not a smoking bar. I am not aware of any Non-smoking bars in Bkk at the minute. I live next door to Cowboy and most of them are smoking bars...bloody expensive though! You are better off with fags!

Kinda strange how the rights of the non-smoker are deemed more important than the right of the smoker. Everyone has a right to smoke, everyone has a right not to, everyone has a right to be around a smoker or not, but who has the right to tell you you can't express your right to smoke. If the smoking in bars was sooooo unbearable, then you simply wouldn't go to the bar to be affected by it. Non smokers do go to the bars, so it can't be that bad. If smoking was such a bad thing, and such a killer, then stop making cigarettes ! Oh no, can't need the revenues. What's next ? will drinking alcohol in bars be banned ? after all that is dangerous, can kill, a non drinker can be adversely affected by a drinker, I mean WTF, why not just make people stay at home altogether just so we don't step on the toes of anyone else, or offend them. It's this ridiculously political correct bull*hit that seems to be destroying what was left of fun and freedom. Just my 2 cents, no offense aimed at any non smokers.

Meaty, Sorry but that's not a very clever thing to say. Yes you can express your right to smoke as long as you do not threaten the lives of those around you. It is pretty simple. I used to smoke but I quit long ago and am not bothered by smoke, however, my friend's aunt died from her husband's second hand smoke so I believe it is somewhat affecting people. Personally I dislike Smokey environments because they cause your eyes to burn, Hair & Clothes to stink. I can't say it affects my lungs because I used to smoke so I know my lungs aren't pink anymore LOL.
